I'd like to thank snoopyANDwoodstick_ for the cover... Thank you! 😊

Hi! My name is Lilian Michel and I'm 17 years old. I'm an excellent runner. Seriously. I can run really fast. I was the fastest of the school. I was known for my running skill. I moved from Cornwall (England) three days ago to go to London. So here I am, a day before I start in my new school. But before continuing the story, I should probably tell you my story. Two years ago, my house burned down. I was in my bedroom when I smelt burned. I got out and saw the living room in fire from downstairs. I went to get my little sister of 10 years old at the time. Her name is Hanna. I held her hand as we went looking for my parents. When we found them they yelled "get out! Run! Save yourselves!" I refused, walking towards them. They were in a terrible state. "Honey, I love you. We all love you very much but you need to go. You need to leave as faraway as possible. Don't worry about us." She handed me her necklace and said "this is for you. Now go." She said pushing us away. I looked back with tears in my eyes before running out the door. I heard them scream in pain and that was the last sound I heard from them. The ambulance came straight after. The next day, social services arrived and told us that our parents had already chosen who would take care of us if anything would happen to them. They were the Brooks family. The mother was Caroline and the father was George. They had two children: Eddy, 17 and Sylvie, 19. They were really nice. They were hiding something from me but I didn't pay attention. I also had pills. They were helping me to cope with the death of my parents. My sister grieved normally. I was the one to worry about. They weren't drugs, just something to help me sleep at night and stuff like that. When our adoptive parents decided to move, I stopped taking them. I was sick of them. I didn't even know why I took them anymore: my doctor and my adoptive parents would say to take them. They would come up with these excuses and the same all the time. I would believe them but I didn't or not completely now. They said we moved because of George's work. He had a promotion. But it was weird because they were rushing things. I didn't bother about it.

So here I am, unpacking our boxes. The house was actually really nice. It was really posh but I liked it. It wasn't painted, we could see the bricks. When I got in the entrance, there was a hallway. On my left was the living room. The house didn't have any levels so the hallway would go faraway. There were 6 bedrooms. 5 for the family and one guest room. Mine was at the end of the house. A door would attach my room to my sister's. In between was the bathroom. The same organisation was for Sylvie's and Eddy's rooms. There parents had a room to themselves with a bathroom to themselves too. The only room without a bathroom to share or not was the guest room which is why no one chose it. We tidied the house and organised it for three days in a row. Some neighbours came and welcomed us. It was kind of them.

Today is the day before I start in our new school just as my adopted siblings and my little sister. We were in September and it was windy. We were in the calm side of the city so it was cool. It's now 10am so I decide to go and run. I change into some loose trousers and put on a matching T-shirt. "I'm gonna run!" I shout at everyone. Hanna was in her bedroom, my step parents were in the living room, Sylvie had stayed in Cornwall because she had already specialised in something. She wanted to be a doctor and she didn't want to change schools. Certainly when she had a boyfriend. Eddy was doing sports in the sports room. I'd prefer doing sports outside with the wind. Just the sensation of the cold wind brushing your cheeks felt good. I put my trainers on and headed outside. The sky was bright. I do skateboard to but I only take it to see my friends and since I moved out I wasn't really motivated but I had decided to go to school with the skateboard. It wasn't far. I also took my old habits back: run everyday after school. So let's go back to my running. I was outside. I stop to breath in the air. It was so peaceful. I started running. I put my headphones on, turning off my connection to the world. It felt so good having the wind touch my skin making my hair flip backwards. I got back home at 12am. We ate at 01pm. Caroline made really yummy food. We were sitting at the table eating silently until Caroline broke the silence floating above us. "Do you take your pills honey?" She said looking at me. "Yes I do. Don't worry." I lied. I just don't want to take any pills. I am 17 and I think I can make my own choices now. She nodded. The rest of the day was calm.
