What is fear? In childhood, we may fear many things, ranging from the wee spiders spinning their webs in the corner of the room unbothered, to the imaginary monsters lurking in the darkness of night. As we grow older, the fears of fairytale monsters subside, instead being replaced with new hindrances such as worrying about tax deadlines or of bandits lying in ambush during a venture out into the forest. As grown adults experience the vast world for themselves, they begin to fear war and anything that may disturb the rare peace found in their lives.
Yet, the most chilling and profound fear, capable of sending shivers down the spines of even the most mighty warriors, lies far closer than one might imagine. True terror, in its most haunting manifestation, is the experience of losing family. I was forsaken in such a way at an early age and exposed myself to a gruelling lifestyle containing many hardships thereafter. Now as I sit helplessly in a quaint old cottage on the outskirts of town, long retired from my duties, I am but a senile old cripple, peacefully biding my time for the day I depart to the other side where my friends and family await me.
With my sword hung up on the wall and travel garments packed away, I have taken up the hobby of writing in my free time. Here I have documented my life experiences in the form of a narrated story, through the eyes of I when I was young and naive. I present to you a tale of innocence and maturity, of joy and sorrow, of peace and conflict, and of betrayal as well as the journey in pursuit of vengeance. This is my story, the story of a young man stricken by tragedy, the life of Vindic Palomer.
