A rush. That's how the day was going.
I felt like I was wearing an invisibility cloak! It was my wedding and everyone else was too stressed to spare me five minutes.
I looked around and saw no one noticing me. It wouldn't hurt them if I went for a small walk...
I managed to sneak out undetected and stroll under the full moon that shone down on India.
My watch said 9pm as I walked into the gardens by my palace hall, well, my wedding hall which was a rented palace. The Palace was surrounded by gardens, covered in fairy lights that glimmered against a dark blanket of stars. Water fountains danced around me and some squirted me unexpectedly.
I giggled childishly.
Dragonflies fluttered around me. Fireflies blinded my eyes as their brilliant light entered my pupils. Roses, conifers and orchids bloomed left, right and centre. Pink, red, orange and shocking purple came into view under the pure white moon.
I closed my eyes and breathed in the fresh air. Thinking of New York and the lights, excitement and pollution from rush hour traffic. Oh, how I wish I was still there! With my friends, university and clubs! Instead I'm here in one of the most amazing palaces in Mumbai, but with cousins who annoy you, aunties that pull your cheeks and binge drinking uncles.
My mum was there for me and i couldn't have survived in this world without her. There was also Aunt Riya but she fluttered in and out of our lives like a social butterfly rather than family. It hurt that my father wasn't here with us but he was watching over me and just his thought gave me comfort.
Walking into the maze, I felt a rush of adrenaline. A smile appeared on my face. Seclusion, peace, it's what I needed. Running around my arms opened wide, I didn't care if I got lost but it was the most fun I have had in a long time!
The past few days have been exhausting.
I met everyone, no, almost everyone.
The only person I haven't met is my fiancé, my future husband, who I am going to be wedded to by tomorrow's end. I wish I didn't have to marry him. I'm only twenty-three. It wasn't my mother's wish either but my father's last wish, before he died in hospital because of cancer last year.
Tears streamed down my face at his memory, brushing them away furiously. I looked at my surroundings. I had reached the centre of the maze.Sitting down on the bench, I curled up my legs and closed my eyes and that's when I realised just how sleepy I actually was.
