Hi my name is Quinn, and I am 17 years old. My best friend's name is Andy, and he is 19 years old. We've known each other since I was 13 and he was 15. We've been inseparable ever since we met, we tell each other everything. Or so I thought.

It's only been a week since I found out that Andy is a vampire. Apparently, he's been hiding it from me this whole time, until the other day when he accidentally slipped up and revealed his secret to me. We were in the car driving home from the mall when all of a sudden, a deer ran out into the road and collided into Andy's car. I screamed in shock and Andy immediately hit the brakes and got out to check the damage. I got out as well and shuttered when I saw that the entire front end of the car was splattered in deer blood, ~poor deer~ I thought to myself. As soon as Andy saw the blood he began to breathe heavily before jumping back into the car at an alarming pace. Confused and a little worried, I got back into the car as well, "Andy, are you okay?" He was sitting in the driver's seat with his back to me staring out the window, his shoulders were moving quickly up and down as the speed of his breathing began to increase. "Andy, hey what's wrong?" I asked him while reaching out to touch his back, he pulled away instantly and yelled "Don't touch me!" for some reason he sounded like he was in pain. I was stunned by his comment, he had never spoken to me like that before so I knew something had to be wrong. That's when I saw his reflection in the car window in front of him, I felt my breath get caught in my throat. What I saw terrified me, his eyes were glowing a deep crimson red and black creepted in on where the whites of his eyes should be. Below his eyes dark veins appeared under his skin, and two razor sharp fangs protruded from behind his lips. "Your face!" I screamed out in fear, I saw his eyes go wide. That's when my survival instincts kicked in, and before I even knew what I was doing I jumped out of the car and began running out into the woods that were next to the road. "Quinn, wait!!" I heard him yell out behind me, I couldn't will myself to stop, my body just kept pushing me forward blindly in fear. Suddenly, I felt a gush of air blow past me and the next thing I knew Andy was standing in front of me, he had somehow ran up to me at lightning speed...inhuman speed. "Quinn please let me explain." he had a desperate look on his face as he pleaded with me to calm down. However I couldn't take my eyes off of his fangs long enough to even know what he was saying. I took a step back from him and began to sprint off again, however Andy stopped me right before I was able to make my escape. He sped in front of me and pinned me against a nearby tree. He had my arms on either side of my head and was staring at me with a panicked expression. "Please just let me explain." My mind was still screaming at me to run away but it was no use, so I just nodded my head slowly. He then proceeded to explain to me that when he was 14 he was turned into a vampire against his will, and that even though it's been 5 years he still struggles to control his blood lust to this day. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, I mean vampires aren't real right? Yet...here he was.

"Do you...kill people?" I asked in a small voice. He sighed and closed his eyes before responding.

"Yes I do, more than I'd like to admit. But you don't understand, I have to Quinn. It's the only way for me to live."

I felt a tear fall down my cheek, I wasn't even aware that I had been crying. "How many people...have you killed?"

"Too many to count..." He said, looking at the ground in shame. "I try not to kill more than one a week, I do my best not to feed more than I need to. But the overwhelming hunger makes it difficult sometimes." He looked conflicted as he finished his statement. I could only stare up at him in disbelief. I felt a pit of anxiety begin to build up in my stomach. "How come you never told me about this? I mean I'm your best friend, we tell each other everything.Or at least I thought we did..." I felt ridiculous even asking, yet I couldn't shake the strange sense of betrayal that had crept its way up my spine.

"To be honest I didn't want to scare you, and I was trying to keep you safe." I stared at the ground as tears that I attempted to fight back began to gather in my eyes, he was right I was scared of him right now, terrified actually. I hated myself for that.
