A light sparkled in my vision. As I floated in the darkness, I wondered what was happening. Where was I? Why was I here? The light seemed to get brighter. I reached my pale hand out to touch the light. But I couldn't reach it. I felt myself lose consciousness and float aimlessly down further into the darkness as my eyes shut.

I jumped awake at the sound of my alarm clock. I groaned and rubbed the sleep out of my violet eyes as I sat up in my bed. My long white blonde hair falling behind me in a messy stream. I groaned again and got out of bed. I-very violently-silenced my alarm as I walked over to my closet. I opened my closed and pulled out a white, short-sleeve, button-up shirt and threw it on my bed. Along with a pair of black jeans. I quickly changed my clothes and got out my lucky hair-tie. It was a gift from my dad before he and my mom split up. It was decorated with three birds. One for me, one for my mom, and one for him. I reached behind me and put my hair in a low ponytail. I grabbed some socks and my shoes and put them on. I grabbed my phone and put it in my pocket. I walked out of my room.

I walked downstairs and saw that my mom had left for work already.

"Just like usual," I said to myself.

I saw her note on the table and read it to myself. 'Dear Maelstrom, your breakfast is on the counter next to the fridge and dinner should be in the fridge for later. Also, I'll be home from work a bit later than usual so Luke will be coming over to help you with dinner. Love, Mom'. Luke is our next-door neighbor in the apartment building we've been leaving in for a while and he often helped mom with things like groceries and taking care of me ever since my parents got divorce. I don't mind him, but he can be a bit much. I looked at the counter by the fridge and saw a plate of flapjacks with maple syrup and strawberries. My favorite breakfast. I grabbed the plate and put it down on the table. I got a fork and sat down. I began eating and kept taking quick glances at the clock so I wouldn't be late for school. I quickly finished my food and washed my plate before leaving it on the counter. I went back to my room and grabbed my bag before walking out of the apartment.

I exited the building and began to walk to school. I saw a woman with golden blonde hair walking in the opposite direction then me. She was holding a cane with a rainbow and silver glowing crystal. A wand. That's when I figured that the woman was an arcana-born. I don't have anything against arcana-borns I just find them very interesting. I kept walking along my usual route to school and got there before the bell rang.

While society accepts arcana-borns both arcana-borns and earth-borns agreed that having both of them in public schools would result in chaos. Therefore, the Followers of Arcahn and earth-born governments agreed that earth-borns would remain in public schools and arcana-borns would have their own private schools built to keep the peace. It was agreed by both kinds to be the most beneficial for peace.

I got to class and sat next to my friend Ricky. Her red hair flowing slightly pass her shoulders.

"Planning on another slow day Mael?" Ricky asked flashing her brown eyes at me. "Like always my dear friend," I said.

As predicted the day was slow and uninteresting. Just a normal day of school.

When school ended I began to walk home. I looked up at the sky for a second and saw a very pretty cloud. I took that as a good omen and continued walking home.

As I was walking I felt someone watching me. I quickened my pace hoping to lose my pursuer. I took a glance behind me and saw a man with a black outfit following me. He was wearing a face mask and a black beanie. Like that didn't scream creep. I began to run. But obviously my pursuer did the same to keep up with me.

I quickly got back to my apartment building and quickly got to my apartment. I closed and locked the door behind me. I was panting at this point.

"That was scary. Who was that guy?" I said to myself.

I went to my room still a little freaked out about what had just happened. Who was that guy who was following me? And why was he following me?

A few minutes after processing what just happened I heard a boom. From the front door. I opened my door a crack and saw the man who was following me earlier. But this time with a weird gun. It was like something I heard in History once. It was a gadget of the Offenders of Arcahn. But I also heard that the Offenders mysteriously disappeared about 500 years ago. Same with their technology. I quietly closed my door and silently started freaking out again. It wouldn't be long until he entered my room and found me. But there was no way out. My breath was wavering. I needed to do something. But what?
