prologue

DECEMBER 29TH, 2023 

Kang Taehyun was a regular sophomore in college leaving his favorite coffee shop to head back to his dorm. He was expecting to have a normal day. One thing he never expected to happen was to be asked to fake date the Choi Beomgyu. Especially being asked by his crazy ex.

"E-Excuse me? Are you Kang Taehyun, by any chance?" Taehyun heard a small voice say this from in back of him as he was trudging through the snow.

He turned back around to see this mystery person, and he was met with a young girl, just about his age. "Oh, uh, yes, and you are?" Taehyun just wanted to go home and get this conversation over with; he had no intention to stay here and talk to this random girl longer than needed.

"So nice to meet you," She said, with a smile on her face. "My name is Kim Haneul. I have an...absurd favor to ask of you." Haneul looked hesitant, and sort of embarrassed to ask Taehyun the certain question she's getting stressed over. 

"So... me and my boyfriend, Choi Beomgyu, have just recently broken up. He... how do you say it... is an asshole who only cares about himself. He has no feelings or interest in anyone other then himself. Which is why it hurt so much when he broke up with me, because he threw me away like I was... trash! I am by no means a person to be compared to with trash. That is why I've come to propose an idea or... solution to fix his attitude. And it seems like you're the perfect candidate." She said, an unnerving smile on her face.

"Make him fall in love with you. Break his heart. Do whatever it takes to make him regret his actions." She said, as if it was so simple. As if it was the most important thing in the world.

Taehyun couldn't believe what he just heard. Who the fuck was this girl? Sure, it was one thing to talk shit about someone to a random-ass person, but to ask them to fake date your ex? This girl was fucking crazy.

"...And why are you asking me to do this?"  She looked shocked and taken aback by his question. Why? Did she just expect him to accept this request with no context? No! He wanted some sort of payment, even if this did sound a bit extreme.

"Oh, well... It seems you're just his type. About his height, but you're still a bit shorter. You're smart. You seem to have the same interests as him aswell. And you have a personality he seems to enjoy. Bratty..." She mutters the last trait to herself as it seems like she's inspecting him.

"And you're very pretty, Kang Taehyun. Beomgyu adores pretty people."

 Taehyun wasn't sure shocked was the right word for how he was feeling right now, more like overwhelmed. This was a lot of information to take in. The one thing that was still going through his head was, 'Who the fuck is this girl?'

 He didn't know what to say. Yes? If he didn't, what was she going to do? Sure, maybe at one point in his time here he may have had a slight crush on his upperclassmen, but still! That wasn't a deal breaker to him...but the next thing Haneul said would make Taehyun be okay with fake dating anyone.

"I'll give you 2 million won as payment for helping me. Is that going to help you decide whether or not you're doing this?"

Taehyun didn't even know what he was doing, but all he knew is that he had to do this for his mom. 

"Fine. I'll help you get your revenge on Beomgyu-ssi." 

He has no idea what he's getting himself into.
