Theo's POV

Avery has been lost in the crowd since the dancing started.  If she weren't screaming the lyrics to every familiar song, I'd be worried. I still don't know what happened with her and Jayden today. It's not like I thought she would call me right after, or even the rest of the day, but I also didn't expect her throw a party either.

"I feel a lot for you Teddy"  Was this good or bad?

"Theo, water!" Avery shouts at me, emerging from the crowd. I stand from the cooler I was sat on, grabbing a water from inside and tossing it to her.  In her hast to open it, she spills a bit, but doesn't seem to notice.

"What do you think? Better than Lockwell's?" She asks, a grin on her face from the chaos of people swimming around the room.

"I wouldn't know, never made it inside." I respond, her grin disappearing. We both stay quiet for a minute after that.

"I broke up with Jayden." she suddenly says.

"We broke up. Officially." She continues. I wait to see if there's more, but that's all she says.

"How are you fe-"

"Wanna go dance?" She interrupts, the grin back on her face. I stare at her glossed over eyes and wonder how many drinks it's taken to tell me about the breakup. She takes my silence as a yes and grabs my hand, leading me to the center of the dancing mass. I instinctively hold her close to me, wanting to protect her from wondering hands.  And though she brought me here to dance, she doesn't move. Just stands in the crowd with me.

"You didn't have to tell me about Jayden." I lean in and tell her. She rolls her eyes.

"Sure I didn't." She retorts, grabbing my hands and lowering them to her hips. She starts to sway back and forth, not moving too much from our spot in the center.

"Whatever happens, do you think we're gonna be okay?" She leans close to ask.

"I know I want us to be. " I respond honestly.  I don't know what's gonna happen with us now. In a perfect world, she'd tell me she loves me. She'd say she sees things clearly now and that Jayden was never right for her. She'd say that she's wanted to be with me as long as I've wanted to be with her, and that she's sorry for being so scared to leave Jayden. Things are rarely ever perfect in this world though.

"I'm a bit drunk." She confesses, and a laugh escapes me.

"Wanna ditch the crowd? Get some fresh air?" I offer and she nods, grabbing my hand once more, this time following me.

Dylan's POV

I take Haley out to the boat house, unlocking the combination lock.  There's a loft in the here that I tend to camp out in during the week of Christmas. Last year when My cousin came in from UTA, I caught him up here smoking a joint and he promised to share if I didn't go inform his parents on what he's up to at college. Not that I would've ratted on him anyways, his parents are just as bad as mine, but I did take him up on the joint.

"What's with all the furniture in here? About to have a garage sale or something?" She asks while dodging a lamp. I lead our way to the stairs at the back of the boathouse.

"We moved a bunch of stuff in here earlier to keep from breaking. Too many people in there to leave everything in its place and hope for the best." I explain. We reach the top, taking a seat on the far end, next to a small window.  She retrieves a lighter from her back pocket, and hands the joint to me after taking  the first puff.

"So you're an Academic maniac, used to be it girl, who also runs with the stoner pack?" I  observe aloud. She laughs.

"If you wanna sum it up in one sentence, sure." She retorts. I hand it back off to her, this time she hits it slow and long.
