After getting settled into the demon world and working with Balam Sensei, the day of the conference arrived. R, Sabro, and Balam Sensei met up at his office and set off towards the Conference. R wearing a blue dress that went past her knees with a cardigan and some cute but comfortable loafers with a small heel. Sabro wore black jeans and a white collared shirt. Balam sensei wore a white collared shirt, dark blue trousers, and his usual face mask. R said "Wow you guys look so good! I love the outfits" giving a thumbs up.
Sabro replied, "Thank you, you as well". Balam Sensei said "Thanks, I always try to dress up a little for these events. You look great too." It was an hour-long flight away so Balam Sensei and Sabro flew while R was in Balam Sensei's arms. He explained it as training, Sabro was to carry their bags and supplies to "gain practice flying while holding something delicate". As an example he carried R. However in reality, it was so that Balam Sensei could carry R without too many questions. Being human she obviously didn't have wings and thus, she couldn't fly.
They arrive and find the main conference room setting their stuff in the back row to not block others. Sabro hands Balam Sensei the posters and other stuff he was carrying. Sabro then goes to the info desk for general information, presentation information, and a brochure. They were first and had an hour-long slot.
Balam Sensei then bends down to be able to whisper in R's ear. "Don't be scared, remember why we're here. As I told you Tuesday, this conference is the best place to find out information that might give us a clue on how to get you back." "Alright, thanks for the encouragement" R whispered back. Just then Sabro returned to them and said "I found out we are going first at 10 am. Also, lunch will be from 12 am-1 pm." "Great, thanks for finding that out Sabro!" R cheerfully said.
R went off to find a bathroom leaving the 2 guys sitting there. When Balam Sensei turned to Sabro and softly told him. "In the off chance that something goes wrong and tempers get stoked please protect R. She isn't very skilled in protecting herself, but she is very knowledgeable and her ideas are important "I understand, leave it to me" Sabro replied. Then the 2 of them got the seating situated, taking up 4 chairs with the one closest to the walkway holding the supplies for easy grabbing. Balam Sensei sits next to it and R is sandwiched with Balam Sensei to her left and Sabro to her right.
They chatted a bit and talked about the plan of how the presentation will go. Sabro will stay with the stuff to guard it and save their seats. Balam Sensei will do the majority of the presenting, and R will hold up the posters for Balam Sensei to point to and she will talk a little. Before they knew it the MC said her introductions and Balam Sensei was called to present. R hurriedly walked behind him taking deep breaths to calm herself. Then they were on the stage Balam Sensei introduced himself and then introduced R as his research assistant.
He got started presenting pointing to different parts of the posters while talking. He got really into it and the hour flew by, R talked a little about how birds have hollow bones to be able to fly but dogs don't, and how that is part of why dogs don't fly. The presentation went well and they walked off stage with a round of applause. Then they sat down and high fives were given between the 3 of them. Sabro then said to R "Wow you're so knowledgeable, that's really interesting how hollow bones are necessary for flight". R replied "Oh thanks!" with a bright smile.
The next presentation was a bore and then lunchtime came. The event had gyoza, yakisoba, and katsu, among other things. The 3 of them talked and had a blast. Then Balam Sensei made sure they were situated and went to nerd out with other researchers. R stayed and talked with Sabro, as she was too scared to talk to other demons for fear that she would say something wrong and show how she wasn't a demon. Then lunch ended and back to the presentations, everyone went.
