"Can I get you a refill miss?" Jolting I straightened, looking up from my book. A silver-haired man who was likely in his seventies, held up a coffee pot. He gestured to my now empty mug. "Oh! Um sure, Thank you."
I  smiled. Seems last night made me a bit more jumpy than I had thought. A chill ran down my spine, who was that? Why was there someone by the cabin in the first place? As late as it had been it was too bizarre to chalk it it as being a random hiker or neighbor. The worst part is there were no neighbors within five miles, the cabin was built on a property the Greysons bought surrounded by the forest, previously used for the family summer home before Luke started college. Mrs Greyson loved it there, she would call it their little hideaway. It was close enough to the college both kids wanted to attend yet far enough to be what they considered safe from the frat parties. No one should have been on the property, the more I tried to make sense of it, I just ended up filling myself with dread. At least the fear took away the pang I felt when I recalled this morning's events.
Things were already a mess and it hasn't even been seventy-two hours since we moved here. Kicking myself mentally, I shouldn't have let Chrissy convince me staying at the cabin was a good idea, living with Luke? Not what I had planned. It was different from seeing him on the occasional holidays when he came back to tone or the weekends he and Derek stayed at the Greysons after finals. No, now he was under the same roof.
The man realizing I was dazed off offered a sweet knowing chuckle and filled the mug. He probably thought I was a college student who partied too much the night before. I thanked him for the coffee and went back to reading. The man didn't walk away though instead he sighed. "Little lass, are you alright?" Confused I tilted my head. His dark eyes crinkled at the edges matching the smile he gave me as he nodded and gave me a once-over. "Not trying to sound rude sweetheart but you look like you just saw a ghost. Anything I can get you? On the house" Smiling I Shook my head "I'm alright, Thank you though. just had a rough night." I trailed off and recalled why I was even here instead of the cabin "And rough morning."
Before he could reply large bells jingled as a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Chrissy came bounding in. "There you are!" She exclaimed setting my back back on the table. Seeing I had someone to keep me company the man smiled "Well I'm glad you alright, Can I get anything started for you ladies?" He paused for a second giving Chrissy a once over, then it seemed like a light bulb went off.
"Little Chris!" He beamed.
"Ed!" Chrissy squeaked at a pitch that caused me to flinch. She jumped up to hug him as he laughed. "Don't tell me I've got both my little Greysons here in town now?! I barely recognized you, I remember when you were just yay high" he gestured to his hip making Chrissy grin  "Yes sir! You got us and Olive here!" I gave a little wave to Ed.
"She is the one I've told you about, she is practically my sister. Her and I are sharing the large room and Luke has his buddy Derek are at the cabin as well." Ed gave her a worried look that any adult would get imagining the trouble four college kids living alone under one roof unsupervised can be.
Chrissy giggles and pats him on the back. "Oh, Eddy don't look so worried! We are big girls and Boys now and know how to use protection." Ed looked like he was about to turn white from blood loss or shock. "She is joking, We won't cause any trouble." I smile and glare at Chrissy. "He knows I just like to tease him. He has known us since we were born, My parents used to go to college here remember?" Ed recovered thankfully, as he poured Chris her coffee he said "She's right, she and Luke have always been great kids. Well Olive its nice to finally meet you, heard a lot about you over the years when the Greysons are in town. If you two ever need anything don't hesitate to come talk to me or the wife you hear?"
I smiled "Deal, thank you." After taking our orders he returned to the kitchen.

Chrissy and I finished breakfast and made our way around campus. Ed's Cafe was a block away and was one of the popular places for students to get a meal in walking distance.
"So, what do you think about this?" Chrissy asked and hands me her phone. A little light pink sundress with a daisy pattern and white sandals were on her party planning board. Yes, that's right she has a whole board for party planning. She has a board for everything. This board was called 'Olives 19th birthday' and the clothes were labeled 'bday fits'.
Grimacing I look at her and shake my head. "No, absolutely not. What I have on now is fine for a little party at the cove plus this was supposed to be a party to celebrate our first week here not a birthday party." She yanks the phone away and holds it back up. "It's cute Olive! Come on its your birthday tomorrow I merged the vents and its added in the E-invites. plus..." She wiggled her eyebrows at me "that guy in physics confirmed he was going. Oh and I found out his name is Tristan he's a sophomore." rolling my eyes at her unprompted report I opened the door to our first class. Ever since she caught a guy smiling at me she's had a one track mind to get me to talk to him.
On one hand I know it's because she's concerned, I haven't gone at out with anyone since our sophomore year in high school when Landon Fischer took me on my first date. Let's just say it didn't end well. Chrissy assumed I hadn't tried to 'get out there again' since it had been that much of a train wreck, but that wasn't it. The reason I went with Landon was just a desperate attempt to forget him...
"Chris, I appreciate you trying to be a wingman for me..." I smiled as she gives me a knowing look, before I could finish my sentence she cuts in "Ugh, fine. But please let me pick your clothes, the birthday girl should be the star of the show." knowing there is no winning this one, I give her a nudge and made our way to our seats. "Just promise me It will be casual, comfortable and functional, I am not going to a cove party in a mini dress." She bounces a little bit in excitement "Done and Done."
