Luke's P.O.V

Michael sat with his back slumped against the window, his legs laying across my thighs and reaching out into the aisle.

He had fallen asleep the second we had made it out of the hotel's parking lot. Given we did have to leave rather early in the morning like we did on our way to the convention, I understood why he did.

"Hey," I heard someone say quietly as they tapped on my shoulder. I looked up to see Calum.

'Hey,' I mouthed. We were on the bus, and none of the other members of the squad really thought I could talk so I didn't want to.

"I, uh, just wanted to say thanks for helping me out with the 'proposal' and stuff," he said, smiling a bit.

I returned the small smile.

"And thanks for coming too, it really means a lot to Ash," he added in a bit softer voice, probably not wanting his boyfriend to hear.

I waved him to come closer so that I could whisper in his ear. "I didn't want to fail, that's really the only reason why I came."

He chuckled lowly, "Still throws me off when you speak, mate."

I scoffed, rolling my eyes, mouthing, 'Whatever.'

"Well, I should get back to my seat before Ashton gets at me about standing on the bus while we're driving." And with that he left back to his seat at the front next to the curly haired boy, leaving me and the highlighter I had discovered I had a crush on.

Ashton's P.O.V

"What were you doing?" I asked with a slight chuckle when Calum came back down to his seat with a grin.

"Just chatting with Luke," he answered, grabbing my hand and lacing our fingers.

"Chatting? With Luke?" I inquired with raised eyebrows.

"Well, I talked; he mouthed." He shrugged.

I only quietly laughed, looking out of the window as the sun was just shining, causing the morning dew to shine on the grass on the side of the highway. But my attention was soon brought back to the Kiwi when he spoke softly, rubbing a pattern on the back of my hand with his thumb.

"Aren't you scared?"

I frowned. "What do you mean? Is there something I should be scared of?" I questioned unsure of myself.

"It-It's just... Aren't you afraid of what everyone will say back at home once they find out you're going out with a theater geek...?" Calum mumbled, keeping his dark eyes on our hands.

I unlocked my hand from his, making his head snap up. I cupped his cheek, making him look my in the eyes.

"Cal, no one is going to effect my feelings for you. I stood up for you when no one else did; do you really think I would do that if I didn't care?" I said, seeing his eyes cloud over.

No response.

"Calum, please trust me," I whispered, wiping a stray tear from his red cheek with my thumb.

"I-I-" But he was cut off by his phone blaring out Green Day, telling him that he was getting a call. "I'll, uh, be back," he told me, standing up and walking to the back of the bus.

As the distance between us grew, I could here him say, through sniffles, "N-No mum, I'm fine. Don't worry about it..."

He stayed in the seat in very back, slouched against the window, for the rest of the ride back.

I couldn't figure out why he was acting the way he was. Had I done something to lose his trust? Make him unsure of our relationship? Nothing could come to mind as to why he was avoiding the subject.

And so I sat there, in the front of the bus, letting the idea of Calum having an internal war eat me alive.
