"Why would he do something like this? Tell me what happened," she responded. "Shyla asked me to get rid of this guy at the bar because he was drunk. So I went over there and asked him to leave, and when I tried to take his drink, he threw it on the floor. I went to pick up the glass off the floor, and as I leaned down, he grabbed my butt, so I slapped him; after that, he backhanded me, causing me to fall into the glass on the floor and that's what happened," I said while letting a tear roll down my face. "Well, why would you slap the man, Aaliyah?" she asked with her hand on her hip. "He grabbed my ass, Mom," I yelled. "Boys will be boys," she replied, sitting back on the couch. "Are you fucking serious, Mom? This man assaults me, and you're taking his side over mine," I yelled while glaring at her and following her. She shrugged her shoulders. "Screw you," I yelled as I walked away to my room. I slammed the door to my room. I sat down on my bed and cried for the second time today. I feel so alone, my mom defending a man she doesn't know.
I unlocked my phone to look for an apartment and a new job. I love my job and co-workers but need to make more money to afford an apartment. I have a degree in marketing, so I would like to apply for a job at a company that allows me to use my skills. I saw an opening for a personal assistant, so I immediately filled out the application. Then, I continued to hunt for an apartment. I have about $5,000 saved, so I can move into an apartment right away because I already have the money. I found an apartment for $2000 a month, and you only need to pay rent and a security deposit to move in. I called the place immediately to see if they had any available apartments. "Hey, my name is Aaliyah Bailey, and I would like to know if you guys have any vacant apartments. I saw online that you have a two-thousand-a-month apartment available right now. Is that correct?" "Yes, that's correct," I responded. "When would you like to move in?" she asked. "As soon as possible," I said anxiously. A smile formed on my face as I waited for her to respond. "Well, if you are free today, you can come in right now, and we can run your credit and do a background check to see if you qualify to rent this apartment." "Okay, I will be there in thirty minutes. As soon as I got off the phone, I grabbed my purse and went out the back door.
I didn't want my mom to see me leaving. When I got in the car, I put the address of the closest bank near the apartment complex. I started my journey to the bank. When I got in there, I asked to withdraw my savings. Once I have all my money, I go to the apartment complex. It took me a while to find the front office, but when I did, I went inside.
"I'm Aaliyah Bailey. I discussed the one-bedroom apartment with you thirty minutes ago," I said, approaching one of the ladies at the desk. I spoke to you about the one-bedroom apartment thirty minutes ago," I said, approaching one of the ladies at the desk. "Yes, I remember. I will need to see a form of ID. Also, our application fee is fifty dollars. We can go and tour the apartment before you fill out the application, or before it's up to you," she said, smiling at me. "I want to do the application now. I looked online for a virtual tour and I love the apartment. I said handing her my driver's license. "It will take a day to complete the background and credit checks. Once they are done, you can come in to start the paperwork. "If your background check is good, the apartment is yours," she said. "Ok thank you so much," I said. "When you go online to do the application it will charge you the fee online," she said. I nodded my head and I pulled out my phone to start the application. I walk away to go sit in a chair, but she stops me in my tracks.
"Oh, I almost forgot here's your license," she handed me my license and I grabbed it. "Since you aren't touring the apartment we don't need this. "Thank you," I responded, putting my driver's license back into my purse. I sit down and go through the application process. It took around an hour for me to finish because I had to gather my pay stubs. Luckily the last couple of months I made good money because I wouldn't have met the pay requirements. Right as I am wrapping up the application and about to hit submit I get an incoming call.
I answered the call and put my phone to my ear. "Hello," I murmured.
"Is this Aaliyah Bailey?"
"Yes, this is her," I responded, standing up out of my seat and walking towards the door.
"I am Stacy calling from Miller's Finance. You have recently put in an application for the personal assistant position."
"Yes, of course, I remember," I replied, walking out of the front office so that I could have some privacy. When I open the door I am hit with a cool breeze that brushes across my skin.
"Will you be able to come in for an interview?" Stacy asked.
"Sure," I said eagerly, I put the phone on mute, and I did a little dance celebrating this victory. I took a deep breath and I unmuted myself again.
"We have an opening tomorrow at 1 p.m. Does that work for you?"
"Yes, that will work for me. Thank you so much for this opportunity," I said on the phone with a huge smile on my face.
