I was busy working within my office. Nell had given me some rather interesting papers a few moments ago regarding slave trafficking that utilized a rather unsuspecting route through the Withering Forest. This was information I would need to give to the Knights Brigade but I doubt they would do anything, especially with that stupid count in charge.
Still, I could always report it to the king of Granzell and they could take looks at it.
Taking it into consideration, the slaves being transported are likely heading towards Raydoss, a nation we have been at odds with for a while now. The reason? Unclear. These papers just have the names of a few unknown nobles and seemed to only list people in Raydoss. Still, I could tell they were being sold for quite a bit of gold.
As much as this was useful to know, this was not the best day to review these papers. After all, today was the day for the goblin subjugation which left me slightly worried. Although with Donadrond present and that mysterious child with him, I was certain they could beat back the goblins before they stampeded.
That was what I thought at least but it seemed like we were far too late.
"GUILDMASTER! THE GOBLINS ARE STAMPEDING!"
"WHAT?!"
I had rushed out of my office and saw that the guild was deserted. Not even Nell had remained.
I rushed outside and I could make out the noise of destruction and chaos in the distance. I made a break over to the front gates as quickly as possible to find that the adventurers and guards were working side by side to keep the goblins away. I made my way over the wall to see hundreds of goblins all charging in...
Alessa would fall, especially to this many goblins. I could make out the zone of battle where Donadrond was beating back the goblins but even he was struggling as the goblins were beginning to slowly overwhelm his regenerative abilities.
Although away from Donadrond's zone of battle was the mysterious little girl's battle. There were hundreds charging towards her and hundreds more dead behind her. Anyone could make out her silhouette, especially with that giant flaming blade she was wielding. Each goblin that came close to her was torched beyond recognition. It reminded me of a certain Divine Blade but it was clear that she was simply cloaking her blade with fire magic.
The goblins stood no chance of beating her but for some odd reason they kept charging her.
It wasn't until I realized that she was actively using some sort of provocation to draw the goblins away from the others. If she hadn't been using that Skill, there might've been far more goblins at the gate and far more to overwhelm Donadrond.
She blasted through hundreds more until finally there was a goblin that couldn't be ignored that she collided with. Anyone could tell it was a Unique Goblin given that it was able to come to blows with Fran. Fran struggled to catch up to it and got tangled up in a massive swarm of goblins until finally she broke through and headed straight towards the outside of the horde.
At first I figured she was trying to escape Alessa but then she annihilated the goblins in the far back. As it turned out, that's where the mages and archers that kept pestering the walls were. Not to mention that Unique Goblin was also there.
She annihilated them, each and every single one before turning back around and charging back into the frontline but by then, the horde was already trying to retreat. Whatever she did, she broke their coordination and terrified them.
Donadrond was saved and Alessa lived to tell the tale of the largest goblin stampede it had ever experienced.
From the aftermath, you could track Fran's path of destruction by following where her blade touched the ground. Scorch marks and ash followed her path. In the short term, that area will be unusable but given a few months, it will be fertile land that might be able to feed Alessa for some time. Although I severely doubt Fran did so intentionally.
Looking at it all, I have to say...
She was one powerful warrior...
Not even Donadrond, a C-Rank Adventurer could compare to her strength and tactical brilliance.
I need to keep a closer look on her...
I had to make sure she wasn't a spy...
If she was, Alessa is doomed to fall to their savior.
