In the wee hours of the morning, at precisely 5 am, Harperina found herself wide awake. She lay in her hotel bed, staring at the ceiling, wondering why sleep had decided to elude her. The hotel was nestled in its slumber, the only sounds being the soft snores of the other guests. Harperina was the lone night owl, awake amidst a sea of dreamers.

Feeling a rumble in her stomach, Harperina decided to venture into the hotel kitchen. The kitchen was adjacent to her room, a fact that Harperina was grateful for at that moment. She swung open the fridge door and was greeted by a feast for the eyes, a wobbly pudding, a slice of cake perched on a plate, a block of plain cheese, and a plethora of other mouthwatering foods.

Balancing five different dishes in her arms, Harperina tiptoed back to her room, hoping not to wake anyone. But as soon as she settled at her table, Ellenah, her roommate, stirred awake.

The smell of the midnight feast had wafted over to Ellenah's side of the room. "Oy! Why on earth are you eating in the middle of the night?!" Ellenah exclaimed, rubbing her eyes in disbelief. Harperina, between mouthfuls of food, explained her predicament.

Ellenah, now wide awake and feeling the pangs of hunger herself, decided to join the impromptu feast. They chatted for a while, their whispers echoing in the quiet room. After their bellies were full, Ellenah, now satisfied, promptly fell back asleep, leaving Harperina once again, the only one awake.

Harperina, feeling a bit restless, decided to get some fresh air. She grabbed her jacket from the closet, put on her beanie, and quietly slipped out of the hotel. The cool, early morning air hit her face as she stepped outside. She took a deep breath, taking in the serenity of the sleeping town.

As Harperina stepped outside into the quiet pre-dawn, the world was still asleep. The moon hung low in the sky, casting a soft glow on the empty streets. She pulled her beanie down over her ears, the chill of the morning air making her shiver slightly.

She walked aimlessly, enjoying the peacefulness that the early morning brought. After a while, she found herself standing in front of a small park, its swings and slides silhouetted against the dim light. Harperina decided to sit on a park bench, taking in the serene atmosphere.

As she sat there, she noticed a small, scruffy dog wandering in the park. It looked lost and afraid. Harperina, being an animal lover, couldn't ignore the poor creature. She approached it slowly, not wanting to scare it away. The dog looked at her with wary eyes but didn't run away. Harperina gently extended her hand, letting the dog sniff her. After a moment, the dog gave her hand a tentative lick. A small smile spread across Harperina's face. She had made a new friend.

She spent the next hour playing with the dog, forgetting about the time. The dog's playful antics brought a sense of joy and comfort to Harperina. She shared her last piece of cake with the dog, who gobbled it up happily.

As the first rays of the sun started to peek over the horizon, Harperina realized it was time to head back to the hotel. She gave the dog a final pat, promising to come back and see it again. The dog wagged its tail, as if understanding her words.

Harperina walked back to the hotel, feeling a sense of contentment. As she slipped back into her room, she saw Ellenah still fast asleep. Harperina quietly climbed into her own bed, her thoughts filled with her early morning adventure.

As she drifted off to sleep, Harperina couldn't help but feel grateful for her sleepless night. It had given her a unique adventure and a new four-legged friend. And as she closed her eyes.
