"Entle, O ya kae?" I huff turning around to face my mother. "Mama, I've been in this house for a few hours now, I want to clear my head"
"Clear your head ya eng, you just got back" She huffs. "Exactly, I just got back but you and your husband are already fighting, I'll be back in an hour, max" I state walking out of the suffocating house.
"Tell your men to stop following me, I'm old enough to take care of myself!" I say without turning to look at her.
That's right, they're back at it again. Always fighting like cats and dogs. This has been going on for years, way back before I was even born.
I know my father doesn't love my mother as much as he loves the woman they're constantly arguing about. I've seen her cry multiple times because of it.
They just had an argument because apparently, he stole a 'shipment' from some powerful family and that's why I had to travel around the city with three bodyguards following behind me just incase I get abducted.
This is why I hate coming home. I should've just listened to my brother, Omphile and stayed back in Western Cape. I ignore her calls as I get into my car, driving out of the guarded estate.
I find myself mindlessly driving around the streets of Johannesburg, I haven't been home in two years so a few things have changed. My phone rings and I pick it up.
Ona:

Relax, I just needed a breather.Ona:
They're at it again?Me:
Yes and it's annoying Ona, I bet you're having the time of your life.Ona:
Speak for yourself, I've been chasing chicken's all morning. I'm stuck in the bhundus while you're in Jo'burg, it's better than nothing.Me:
Aw shem. It's only for a couple months tho.Ona:
Not anymore, Gosasa ke tla moo.Me:
Serious?Ona:
Have I ever lied to you? I'm tired of this lifestyle, I'll be there in the afternoon.Me:
I'll send you the location... I have to go, I'm driving.Ona:
Sharp, I'll call you later.I hang up, putting my phone on the passanger seat. I park outside the mall, grabbing my purse and walk out, heading inside Woolworths.
I make my way around the store, unecessarily pushing items into my cart. I really need to visit my grandfather, I haven't seen him in almost three years.
I stare inbetween the purple tulips and the white dafodil flowers, unable to decide on which to choose. I reach down to pick up the tulips but stop middway when a loud ringing sound erupts across the store.
Gunshot sounds are heard all around, killing everyone in sight. Bodies drop to the ground like flies, my hand finds it way into my purse, searching for my phone.
Where is i- I left it in my car.
I hide behind the shelf, keeping my breathing in control. At times like these, I wish my bodyguards were here.
A lady walks past me but her movement is put to a halt when a bullet pierce's through her chest. My eyes shut as muffle the scream that threatens to escape my mouth using my hand. I tightly clutch onto my bag, silently praying no one sees me.
Footsteps become more louder and clearer. I feel someone's presence infront of me. I slowly open my eyes, accepting my fate.
The first thing my eyes come in contact with is the gun sitting on his hand. I changed my mind, I don't want to die. "Have you found her?" A voice shouts from the entrance.
"No. She's not here" The man infront of me says, without taking his eyes off of mine. "I'll go check the-" He cuts the person off. "There's no one here, let's go" He walks off without saying anything.
I sink to the ground, clutching my hands around my knees. I watch them all exit the store, not caring if people from the outside are watching.
I quickly wipe away the tear that manages to slide down my cheek. After what feels like days, I get up making my way out of the store, ignoring the stares I get from the people waiting outside the crime scene.
I get into my car, placing my forehead against the steering wheel. My phone rings just as I'm about to start the car.
Me:
Hello?Tata:
Nkosazana Uphi?Me:
I-I'm in my car, driving home.Tata:
We're you anywhere near the mall today? Are you okay?Me:
No, I'm fine... I'll be there in a few minutes.I hang up before he can respond. I've never lied to my father before, and I know that he knows that I'm lying to him. Whoever those people were are definitely after someone and that someone seems to be me.
I drive back home, parking in my designated spot before walking into the house. "Entle o-" I cut her off. "Mama, not now please. I have a headache and I want to sleep"
I hug her and make my way up to my room. I lock the door, take a long shower and get into bed.
I close my eyes, trying to fall asleep but a certain pair of brown eyes keep me awake. I toss and turn, but end up sitting on the edge of the bed, scrolling through my phone.
"This is all your fault!" I hear from a distance. Not again. "Thula marn Dineo, I'm trying to think!" Even from all the way across the second floor, I can hear them arguing.
"You want me to keep quiet while my daughter's life is in danger because of you?! Nx" I hear the door slam shut right after those words are uttered, confirming my suspicions.
I have to leave for Western Cape as soon as possible. I don't want to get involved in any of this, I know for a fact that even my father cannot protect me from these people that are after me.
