Arriene's POV

The scent of blood infected the air. Arriene's legs refused to work, laying on the dirt floor. The pain in her stomach was almost unbearable. She laid her hands on the ground and pushed down to try to get into an upright position. She looked around and viewed trees as far as the eye could see. No sight of the city. What had happened? All she remembered was crossing the barrier of the city, and then waking up here with a dagger lodged into her abdomen. Maybe if she stared into the woods enough someone would come to her aid. She couldn't yell or scream for help, because even mere talking hurt.

But yet, she still tried.

Her voice was hoarse, quiet.

Sharp pain shot through her body, causing her to scream on instinct. She breathed deep breaths to calm herself down. Maybe someone heard her. The birds sure did. She watched their wings flap up and down in the sky, distracting her from the current pain she was feeling. She ran her hand down her muddy, ripped pants. Her legs flinched as she touched the burnt skin.

She could move her legs. She moved them side to side, up and down. She used all of her strength to get off of the ground, falling twice into the pool of blood on the ground. She looked back at the knife. If she knew anything about stab wounds, it was that she shouldn't take the knife out or she would just bleed to death.

You're fine, Arriene. Get up. I'm fine. Totally.

She crawled to the closest tree and grabbed onto a low branch to support herself.

I did it. Standing up. Okay, cross that off my mental list. Find a cave to sleep in.

She grabbed onto tree after tree, tearing leaves off of trees to place on her legs. Water fell onto her face. Raindrops started to fall slowly and lightly. She looked around frantically for shelter. Stone. Her eyes stopped at the large wall of rock. At the bottom of the wall was a hole large enough for a human to fit in.

Trees. Where are the trees?

Between her and the cave were dirt, sand and rocks. No trees. She fell to her knees and crawled across the clearing. When she reached the cave, she grabbed onto the rock and pulled herself in. Her hair and clothes were soaked.

Should I just... wait for someone to find me?
