ANDROMEDA FOUND HERSELF STANDING IN A DESOLATE LANDSCAPE, SURROUNDED BY FLICKERING SHADOWS THAT SEEM TO WHISPER HER NAME. the air was heavy with an unsettling stillness, and an eerie, crimson mist curled around her feet. as she moved forward, the ground beneath her transformed into a field of petrified statues – each frozen in a moment of terror.

suddenly, the statues began to crumble, turning into ashes that swirled around her. the whispers grew louder, echoing hauntingly through the empty expanse. among the ashes, faces of familiar and unfamiliar figures emerged, each expressing pain, fear, anguish, or betrayal.

her father. percy. annabeth. luke. grover.

andromeda's heart raced as the air became dense with a sense of impending doom.

a distant, echoing laughter resonated, and the shadows converged, forming a silhouette that bore a striking resemblance to herself. the doppelgänger raised an arrow, its tip aflame, and pointed it directly at andromeda.

the atmosphere felt like it was suffocating her as the arrowhead shone brighter, casting an ominous glow on her surroundings.

as the arrow was released, the world around her shattered.

andromeda's eyes snapped open, hearing a cranky grover on the top bunk being woken up by annabeth and percy. "who's froofy?" he exclaimed. "you're froofy. what's froofy?"

andromeda groaned, covering her face with her hands. "i'm never having kids." she muttered. "a moment of peace, please."

percy let out a laugh from the cot next to hers. "sorry."

andromeda shook her head, rubbing her eyes. "god, it's like we're back at hermes with our cots on the floor next to each other."

the quad had bought a ticket to a cabin train, where they could sleep while they journeyed west — and it was the middle of the night.

normally, andromeda liked to sleep in the grass, but she didn't have much else of a choice. at least she still had some of the feathers the animals in the forest had given her.

with a hum, grover rolled over. "i think i need to eat."

THE NEXT MORNING, the group sat on the train, doing everything they could to pass the time until the next stop. "two days until we reach los angeles." grover told them. "plenty of time before our deadline to reach the underworld."

percy bit the inside of his lip. "can i ask a dumb question?" he asked from the seat next to andromeda.

annabeth raised her eyebrows. "it's like you need me to make fun of you."

percy shot her a glare, continuing anyway. "i've never been to los angeles before." he admitted. "i'm guessing none of you have been to los angeles. so, how will we have any idea where we're going?"

grover shrugged. "no idea." he admitted. "but that's like, step 37, and we're still on step four." he said with a light chuckle. "cross that bridge when we get there."

percy nodded slowly. "follow up stupid question."

annabeth rolled her eyes. "dude."
