A Bit Old-Fashioned

It's been a while since Winnie had moved.

Augustine knows he'll be fine, he's long accepted that Winnie wasn't always going to be by his side, not that he would want that or mind if it stayed like that, but after the events of the snowstorm that had finally brought them both together, close, mended their relationship, fixed them and their importance to each other, he 'accepted' the fact that Winnie was moving onto bigger things. And if he could, would drag Augustine along with him.

That doesn't remove the fact that Winnie is still leaving him again, though. Augustine knows he's going to miss his best friend being by his side again like he was for the rest of that summer.

But...

It's literally not the end of the world.

It didn't even take a day before Winnie had video-chatted Augustine, showing him a small 'House tour!~' of, of course, his new house. The call had ended up lasting a few hours, up until the point that Augustine had to yell into his phone to wake up Winnie so his phone didn't die before his Uni orientation. Winnie still owes him for that.

How often they were able to actually talk-talk diminished when Winnie started classes, as expected. Augustine had also decided to apply to his community college, thankfully being accepted into that one. He figured he could get his generals done before applying somewhere else. Or applying to the University he had originally planned. The one Winnie currently was attending.

Winnie also had his interests outside of school, Winnie had started picking up figure skating and of course he's already nearly a natural. But even so, Augustine never hears the end of the copious amount of drama that goes on in that University (maybe he'll reconsider re-applying...) or the fact that Winnie is pretty much the valedictorian there. And again, Augustine had his side hobbies as well, seeing as he part-time volunteered to be a hockey coach for the youth hockey in town because why wouldn't he?

They both had their lives sort of planned now.

It's not a big deal, definitely not as big of a deal as it would have been before that wild-ass trip of a car ride, but the small, subtle feeling of tension, and reality setting in is what gets Augustine.

But they had their own lives, yet somehow, they'd be together even with the distance.

Augustine decides he'll focus on that rather than anything else.

It's winter again.

Augustine watches his breath leave his mouth like heavy smoke as he trudges through the piled-up snow no one has decided to shovel up from the sidewalk, taking deliberate steps to make sure he doesn't step into an ankle-deep death patch.

He curses under his breath, it's one of the colder days of the year, far from the coldest- he'd be damned if he willingly walked through one of those. Thankfully, it was more of a brisk, chilly day, one that would only bother him if he stopped moving too much and started feeling his pants stab his legs.

At least he's almost home. He's never liked the cold that much, both he and Winnie found that funny considering their shared interest in Hockey. He gets too cold too easily, his reason for bundling up, maybe more than necessary.

Augustine tries to find something to think about while he walks. Something had happened at the college today maybe? He'll figure out something, maybe something he can tell Winnie about. Speaking of Winnie, he should be going on break soon. Augustine wonders what he has planned. That's what he'll ask him when he gets home.

He nods to himself, it's not like anyone can see him.

Making it home doesn't take as long as Augustine thought it was going to. He easily recognizes his street and can see his house a couple of them down. He revels in the thought of how warm his house would be and his pace quickens.
