The next morning I'm jolted awake at 8:00 by a sudden loud ringing. I rub my eyes blearily and look around trying to see where it's coming from. I slept surprisingly well, it's been a while since I lasted a full night with no nightmares. The girls I shared a room with used to beat me when I woke them with my screaming so I'm glad I didn't bother my new roommate.

Caspar is climbing reluctantly out of bed with his hair sticking up in every direction, I'm sure mine isn't much better.

"What's that bell?" I ask him.

"It's the morning alarm, it wakes everyone up for breakfast."

I nod in understanding and start to get dressed. It's a Sunday thankfully so I just put on jeans and a hoodie instead of the uniform which I will wear tomorrow. Then I remember I'm meeting Noah for breakfast and I brush my hair a little more nicely.

On a good day like today, my hair reaches my lower back, falling in loose curls. One of the foster parents I'd had a few years ago tried to convince me to cut it off and sell it and, when I refused, tried to cut it off while I was sleeping. People are weird.

I walk out into the corridor and see Noah already there waiting for me with another boy. The boy has sandy blonde hair carefully styled so a few choice strands sweep across his blue eyes. His lean frame reminds me of a greyhound, built for speed, and he wears a flirty smirk along with dark jeans and a red baseball jacket.

"Oh hey Amaryllis, you ready to go?" Noah asks, pulling my focus back to him. He's also wearing dark jeans, with a plain white t-shirt that hugs his build in a way that makes me grateful for the bright sunshine that woke me up that morning.

"Yep." I reply, popping the p.

"Perfect," He gestures to the blonde boy next to him. "this is-"

"I can introduce myself," He interrupts from his position leaning against the wall. He steps towards me, "I'm Felix," he holds out his hand for me to shake, "Charmed I'm sure."

"Amaryllis," I reply, ignoring his hand and choosing to cross my arms instead.

Felix looks a tad surprised and slightly intrigued that I hadn't fallen over myself as soon as he looked at me, clearly used to that if his confident manner is anything to go by,

"Bet you're glad you met us before the other savages who go here, You're in good hands." He sweeps a hand through his hair, flashing a smile that I'm sure has made many other girl's panties melt right off them.

"If by good hands you mean my own then yes, I am."

Unperturbed by my clear disdain he continued.

"I'm certainly glad I got to meet the mysterious new girl."

I snort, "I'm not mysterious."

"The only girl in a school full of boys?" He tilts his head, "I beg to differ."

I'm not sure if that was a compliment but the low tone he whispered it in sends pleasant sparks racing up my spine. Felix may be rather obnoxiously confident but he has the looks and charm to back it up.

Noah clears his throat, interrupting my thoughts. "Actually I think you'll find I found her first." His eyebrow is raised in unimpressed look that made heat rise to my cheeks as I remember he's still standing there. "We better get to breakfast before all the food is gone, Carter'll be waiting for us."

From behind me the sound of a door opening makes me flinch. A small crease appears between Noah's eyebrows at the sight but its gone as quickly as it came.
