"Where IS everybody?"
Michelle rings the concierge desk bell once more. "I mean, hello?"
Your group wanders the lobby of the majestic Celestial Hotel on the Caribbean island of La
Huerta. And there's not a soul to be seen.Sean scratches the back of his neck. "Sooo this'll make for one weird-ass Yelp review."
Grace nervously runs her arm. "The hotel staff knew we were coming this week, right? This is not good."
"What are you complaining about, dweeb?" Craig laughs. "We have the hotel to ourselves! This is sick!"
You look around at the empty lobby. The eerily quiet makes you feel a little nervous. "I'm with Grace on this one. Something like this doesn't just happen. We should be trying to figure out if something's seriously wrong."
Grace nods to you appreciatively. "Thanks for backing me up, Y/N. I don't want to sound like I'm raining on everyone's parade."
Craig rolls his eyes. "But you are raining on it. You're going full on monsoon on my parade."
Raj pops his head behind the bar and grins. "At least the booze is still here! Who's up for a Mai Tai?"
Diego picks up a half-full wine glass sitting beside a lounge chair. "Check it out, Y/N. There's still lipstick on the rim. It's like everyone just suddenly up and left."
"But without their luggage? Why?" Quinn asks.
You put your phone back in your pocket. "And isn't it weird that none of us have any cell service?"
Craig shrugs. "Maybe they don't got any towers here."
Aleister growls. "Of course the island has cell phone towers, you colossal buffoon."
"And how would you know that?" Zahra shoots back.
"1... well, of course, I..." Aleister falters. "Perhaps because l'm not a complete imbecile? They were plainly visible in the distance on our approach."
Diego looks to you. "What do you think is happening, Y/N?"
You bring a hand to your chin in thought. "There must've been some kind of incident."
Diego tilts his head. "Incident?"
"Yeah, you know, like a gas leak or an outbreak or something, and everyone had to leave." You explain.
Grace hums to herself. "That's... not implausible, actually. This is a volcanic island, after all."
"Lila, what do you..." You pause. "Er, has anyone seen Lila?"
You head outside with the others and find Lila pacing back and forth nervously. Grace steps forward. "Lila? Are you okay?"
The tour guide snaps out of it. "Oh, me? I'm perfect! I'm sure this is positively nothing to worry about!" She forces a smile. "I'd bet it's just a fire alarm test... or maybe even a hotel-wide beach picnic!"
Jake folds his arms, scoffing. "Yeah, or maybe the Care Bears came down from the clouds and took everybody to Happy-Happy Land."
"Jake..." Sean narrows his eyes. "that's not helping."
"Have you even watched an episode of Care Bears?" Raj shakes his head. "You just sound ignorant."
"Not helping?" Jake gestures to the group. "You're the ones sitting around playing story time. How about getting some real answers? 'Cause, truth is, I'm not here to help. I'm here to get paid. And right now, ain't nobody here to pay me."
