getting ready

I couldn't stop smiling. The whole day, my coworkers were commenting on how happy I seemed to be, a huge difference from how I was dragging this morning. I just shrugged it off, and bounced away to take another order. Every time Liddy's and my eyes met, they glowed and sparkled with anticipation. After what seemed like an eternity, 4:00 came, and the two of us sprinted back to the kitchen, threw off our aprons and sped off to our cars.

"Lid, do you wanna leave your car here? You can sleep over tonight and we can get ready together." She thought for a minute, chewing her lip. "Let me grab something from home first. See you in a few!" I drove back to my apartment, and buzzed Liddy in a bit later. She was carrying a bulging plastic bag. "Clothes and makeup," she said, excitedly. In my room, she pulled out a dark red dress and black platform shoes. "I wish I had some leather, you know, like the song Shock Me," she said, wistfully as she laid her clothes out on my bed. "Hold on, Lid. I have something. I dug through my closet until I found it- my old black leather jacket.

"Go try it on," I urged her. She grabbed her clothes and walked to the bathroom. She came out a minute later, looking absolutely gorgeous. "Ooh! Do a spin!" I said, as she giggled. "You look gorgeous, aaaand I bet he'll love that you thought of his song." Liddy smiled. "Thanks, (_____). Now, it's time to get you all dressed and styled." "Me?? I don't have to get all pretty, it's my second time going. I can be more casual." Liddy swatted my shoulder and dumped the contents of her makeup bag out on the bed. "Of course you do, last night you didn't have a rockstar boyfriend who's gonna be looking for you. Now where is my red lipstick?" Rockstar boyfriend. That sounded kind of nice. But we'd still only met yesterday.

"I've known him for all of sixteen hours."

"But did you see the way he looked at you?! And he held your hand back in the diner! Have a little faith, (_____)."

"Oooh, he held your hand, what are you, twelve?"

"Shut up. He likes you. I can see, the other guys can see, why can't you believe this?"

"I want to, Lid, I really do. But I can't be sure until I've, you know, gotten to know him more. This is Gene Simmons we're talking about. I can't be sure he doesn't just want to--"

"Do you think he'd like a smoky eye or liquid liner?"

"You didn't hear a word I said, did you?"

"Let's go with the smoky eye. You should wear those black pants from when we went to see Led Zeppelin. With the lace up sides."

"Hm... maybe I will."

In about an hour, Liddy and I were all ready to go. We admired ourselves in my bathroom mirror. Liddy looked stunning in her wine-red dress and boots, along with silver eyeshadow (my idea to subtly remind everyone exactly who she was going for), dramatic winged eyeliner, and nude lipstick. The leather jacket I'd lent her was a lovely compliment to the outfit, and fit her perfectly. I had on brown combat boots, a simple black tank top and black leather pants that laced up at the side, paired with the smoky eye Liddy'd suggested, and red lipstick. "We look amazing," I said, elbowing Liddy's shoulder. "So hot," she agreed. "What time is it?" I asked, running out to look at the clock.

"FUCK!!" I yelled, when I saw the clock. "WHAT IS IT?" Liddy called back. "WE STILL HAVE AN HOUR AND A HALF BEFORE WE HAVE TO GO!!"  "SERIOUSLY?!" she hollered from the bathroom. "Yeah," I said, walking back in. "What do we do now?!" Liddy pouted. "I don't know..." Then she jumped up. "You have KISS records, right? How about a pre-show dance party?" "You're so childish," I laughed, poking her. "But we do have to get hyped up before the concert, so... I'll go put on Love Gun."

We jumped around my living room, blasting "Hooligan" and "Got Love For Sale." When "Shock Me" came on I shook Liddy's shoulders and shouted "HEAR THAT? IT'S YOUR MAN!! TALKING TO YOU!!" She playfully shoved me away, visibly blushing. We laughed and danced until 7, then we decided to take a cab down to the venue. The driver probably thought we had come straight from the mental asylum, we were just giggling the whole time like little girls.
