William H. Bonney

You jolted up from bed with beads of sweat dripping down your chest and forehead. Why? You had yet another nightmare. They come and they go but they have gotten worse as of late. They are always about the same thing; Ma and Pa drowning in the river on the journey to your new life. It has been 10 years since that day but somehow it still haunts you. Sometimes the nightmares change a bit and it's you drowning or Billy.

Billy or as others knew him Kid Antrim, Billy the Kid, or William H. Bonney (he gave himself that one). All these names for one person but that one person was yours.

You sit up in bed for a few minutes trying to collect yourself. You finally mustered enough strength to get up and grab some water. Quietly and slowly slipping out of the covers, you made your way to the water flask you kept on the makeshift dresser you had. Grabbing it, you put on your shoes and tip toed outside. You were now in New Mexico on some land far off from the city which Billy claims to be "good for our souls" but you know it's to keep people from finding him so easily. As you sip your water you hear the front door creak open.

 "What're you doing up darlin'?"

You smirk then turn around to face the man you have loved for oh so long.

"Another nightmare but I'm ok. Nothin' I can't handle" you replied, taking another sip of water.

He looked at you with worry and searched your eyes for another answer. You stayed like that for a while before setting  the flask down and wrapping your arms around his neck, placing your head in the crook of his neck.

"You know you can wake me if you ever get one" he said while squeezing you tighter.

"Yeah Billy I know, you just looked so peaceful I didn't want to disturb you."

He laughed into your hair and pulled back to look at your face.

"I don't know about you but I'm exhausted so let's head back to bed yeah?"

He grabbed your face, kissing your lips softly.

"Yeah, I think I could fall back asleep now."

He grabbed your hand and led you back inside to your shared bed. As you got under the covers, you put your head on his chest, gave a deep sigh and said,

"I don't know where I would be without you William H. Bonney. Goodnight, I love you."

"I love you more than you could know y/n'."

And with that you both fell fast asleep and the nightmares went away for the rest of the night.
