Skye

It was later that night, and I sat in the library about two blocks away from my house.

It was nice, honestly. Especially for a book nerd like me.

I could drive? I just didn't have a car. And it was sad, but I still came here.

Usually Neveah drove me places, or I just took my mom's car, but Neveah was tired after the arcade and mom as well as dad were gone on another business meeting.

I wasn't even slightly exhausted after the arcade; in fact, I'd never felt more awake in my life.

I just had nothing to do, and my mind was rushing. I needed something to do.

So when I was bored, I came here to do something other than thinking.

Sometimes—when I was entirely overwhelmed—I would come here to read a book on one of their comfortable couches, and I wouldn't stop reading until the book ended.

I was overwhelmed. That event with Sebastian scared me senseless, so I decided to do whatever I did when I was afraid...

And pretend it never happened.

It actually worked; believe it or not, and surprisingly, I wasn't as scared of Sebastian as I should've been.

He knew that I was having hallucinations... but he didn't know before which meant that he didn't know.

He shouldn't have been the cause of them.

I think I just needed to process things, and my brain was making me hallucinate to solve things. So I'd be fine.

Yeah, I'd be fine.

I continued reading a new novel by one of my favorite authors, and it was good; it was about an angel who fell in love with a human, and they had to go through great lengths to see each other.

It was like a weird version of Romeo and Juliet.

The male character kind of reminded me of Sebastian a bit; his personality. He was so snotty.

Why did I find egocentric males sexy?

That was concerning.

But—as I read—I heard a short cough next to me, and I gazed up in curiosity.

My lashes lowered.

Sebastian stood in the young adult section of the library, humming some off-key tune as his fingers scanned the spines of some books.

I shut my book and stood, setting it aside as I stepped over to him.

When I stopped, I crossed my arms, tapping my shoe impatiently.

Sebastian gazed down at me and smiled. "Oh, hey, Skye. You're here, too?"

"Give up the act," I said, "just say that you're following me."
