The glittering lights of the Casmen charity gala illuminated the grand hall, casting a heavenly glow upon the gathered nobility. Isa, adorned in a simple sage green dress that radiated understated elegance, entered the glamorous affair with trepidation, her eyes scanning the crowd for Prince Edris.
Creating an aura of exclusivity in the midst of the gathering, Edris stood surrounded by an entourage of women, including Princess Winona and Princess Primrose of Zetril, his childhood friends, both dressed in extraordinary emerald green gowns.
"Ah, my dear Winnie, Rosie, look at this exquisite gathering. I am certain everyone here is envious of my presence." Prince Edris boasted loudly, exuding overflowing confidence and charm.
"Oh, Eddie, you are so right. They should feel privileged to be in your royal presence." Winona giggled like a schoolgirl, desperate to capture Edris's attention.
"Absolutely, Eddie. You're called the jewel of Casmen for a reason!" Primrose added with a friendly smile, trying to stand in the way of her sister.
Winona and Primrose were twins that were the same age as Isa. They did not have celestial, attention-grabbing beauty like Isa, but their faces weren't an eyesore to look at. They were just plain. They both had porcelain-pale skin, rosy cheeks, and cascading grey hair. While sharing strikingly similar features, Winona's slightly darker and wavier locks distinguished her from Primrose. Yet, their looks were overshadowed by an air of frostiness, as their piercing grey eyes reflected their cold and conceited disposition.
Edris clearly was basking in the attention, until he spotted Isa, gliding across the dance floor like an angel.
"Ladies, feast your eyes. Here comes the one I'm forced to marry, Isadora. I must say, she's not as breathtaking as they claim." Edris snarled, scanning the KodaCait princess up and down.
"Really, Eddie? Let us be the judge." Winona smirked slyly, leaning towards him.
"I bet she's just tolerable. I'm sure I'm much prettier!" Primrose scoffed, flipping her hair over her shoulder.
Edris strode towards Isa, his entourage in tow, as Isa engaged in polite conversation with other guests.
"Isadora, my betrothed, I hope you're aware of your great fortune." Edris bragged with a tone of sarcasm.
"Prince Edris, a pleasure to meet you." Isa smiled politely, gently curtsying to the prince.
Once again, Edris eyed her up and down with furrowed brows and narrowed eyes, before letting out an insulting chuckle, "They could've given me a more charming wife-to-be. Your face is...alright. A bit boring, actually."
"He's right, Isadora. You're not as extraordinary as they say." Winona taunted, pouting playfully behind him.
"And that dress, dear, it's almost as dull as your conversation." Primrose snickered, linking an arm through Edris. Winona glared at her sister, then proceeded to link her arm around Edris's other arm.
Despite the discomfort that coursed through her veins when faced with criticism, Isa donned a genuine smile that concealed the turbulence within. She had been raised to submerge any negativity she might have towards others and replace it with a compassionate attitude. Still, she gave the trio a radiant smile and her resilience shone through the cracks in her composed facade.
"Excuse me, Prince Edris, ladies. I see someone I must greet." Isa muttered, before curtsying again and walking away as quickly as she could, before she could explode in rage. She could hardly believe how rude Prince Edris was. She grimaced at the thought that this man was going to be her husband one day. All of his ostentatiousness made her cringe. Edris and his friends exchanged satisfied glances. Still, the Zetril twins glared at Isa and couldn't help but continue to berate her.
