"Isa, darling, did you get a good night's sleep?"

"Don't you dare speak to me, Bea"

The journey from the lake house back to the village centre was about an hour and a half, but with Edris and Isa's constant squabbling, the journey became an entertaining ride which seemed to last forever.

"Oh, Her Majesty definitely had a good night's sleep, considering the way she was snoring like a chainsaw-wielding beaver" Edris snarled at Isa, who was stuck sitting next to him.

Isa's cheeks flushed red as the others around them cackled at the sarcastic response. Giving him a cold glare, she snapped her pocket-mirror shut and scolded, "Oh shut up, you walrus! Bea wasn't talking to you! Plus, you're the one who kept kicking me!"

"And you kept stealing the duvet, you're undeniably selfish!"

"Remember when I asked for your opinion, Edris? No? Me neither!"

Edris turned to Posy, who was masking her devious smiles behind her favourite book.

"Can't believe I have to get married to that woman with her...banshee behaviour...I would never fall in love with her. Gosh, how do you guys put up with her at home?"

Isa, channelling her inner purse-wielding superhero, decided to give Edris a taste of "banshee behaviour" by whacking him over the head with her purse, hoping the power of accessories would knock some sense into him.

"Oh please, love is just a stupid distraction, and it is an even bigger one when you've got such a snob for a fiance"

Evie, her head resting on Pander's shoulder and her hand interlocked with Odie, gave a half smile through a yawn. "Isa, you're so funny when you're angry".

Odie turned to her, mildly concerned. "Evie, how many hours of sleep did you get?"

"Two"

"Oh God-"

"You're so full of...yourself, Edris" Isa mumbled, glancing out of the window with a burning desire to run away.

"That's no way to speak to your future husband, princess" Edris retorted with a cocky smirk.

"Perhaps I should...switch seats with Edris and sit in the middle" Posy quietly quipped, adjusting her glasses.

"Oh, Posy, please do-"

"Oh, Posy please don't, surely you don't want to ruin the romantic moment!" Odie interjected with a giggle watching Isa's face fall.

Isa responded silently to Odie's comment with a swift kick to her shin and a glare.

Mari's knees couldn't stop shaking in anticipation. Since the night before, her desire to see Hawthorne fuelled her restless thoughts and vivid daydreams. She constantly gawked at the window, desperately checking if she could see a familiar location, anxiously counting down the minutes until they would finally arrive and she could quench the thirst of her longing by glimpsing Hawthorne's familiar face.
