KodaCait, LoveLock, Casmen and Xeracea were all kingdoms with their own unique charm: KodaCait represented beauty, LoveLock represented love, and Casmen and Xeracea defined nature and harmony respectively. But they all shared one thing in common: they all had at least three daughters who were part of their royal families. Because of this, three princesses were selected every year to participate in an annual horse race- a highly anticipated event where the kingdoms could unleash their competitive spirits. Zetril, the fifth kingdom which represented strength, was also involved in the race, but since they only had two daughters, a third female cousin was always selected to represent.

The anticipation of the upcoming Royal Horse Race, the prestigious KZLCX Horse Competition, hung in the air like a delicate melody, a symphony of both excitement and apprehension. Posy, Bea, and Mari, chosen as representatives of the KodaCait kingdom, found themselves immersed in the rigorous training regimen under the watchful eye of Mr Conley.

Mr. Conley, the middle-aged horse riding instructor, was a figure of discipline and authority. Standing tall with pale skin, he sported curly black hair and a well-groomed beard that framed his sharp brown eyes. His commanding presence and deliberate movements conveyed a strict demeanour. Despite his stern exterior, Mr. Conley's passion for the sport was evident, as he dedicated himself to instilling a strong work ethic and respect for the art of riding in his students.

The KZLCX Horse Competition had become a familiar stage for Posy, who had been chosen nearly every year, with one exception. Yet, Mr Conley still had more faith in the older two.

"Beatrix, Mariposa, pay attention. The key to winning is perfect form and a strong connection with your horse. Posy, try to keep up." He instructed, watching them meticulously with his eyes narrowed and arms folded.

"Got it, Mr. Conley. I'll do my best." Posy nodded quietly, looking at the ground. Bea and Mari exchanged glances, sensing the favouritism.

As Mr Conley paced along the training grounds, he began to go on one of his usual tangents, one that left Mari yawning and rolling her eyes.

"The KZLCX Horse Competition is a prestigious event, and we haven't brought home the trophy in three years. You know the usual suspects will be at the competition: Princess Emiliana and Eloise from Casmen, Princess Lucinda from Xeracea and Princess Lalita from LoveLock- and you need to look out for them. Mariposa, you remember the taste of victory, don't you?"

With her chest puffed out and head held high, Mari- on her gorgeous black horse Empress- proudly boasted, "Yes, Mr. Conley. I'll give it my all."

"And I'll be right behind her. This year, we're taking that trophy back where it belongs." Bea quipped, rubbing her horse Adore's back confidently.

Posy and her horse Pepper were positioned away from Bea and Mari, feeling slightly sidelined. Instead of quitting, she decided to focus on herself and her own horse. Horse Riding was her passion, the one thing that gave her unspeakable joy, the only thing that separated her from her sisters. As the training progressed, Mr. Conley continued to concentrate on Bea and Mari, offering them more personalised advice and critiques. In his mind, Posy just wasn't on their level.

"Beatrix, you're a beautiful girl, but your posture needs to be impeccable during the jumps. And Mariposa, make sure you anticipate the turns. Miss Emerald Sweetheart can't afford to make any mistakes."

Posy listened intently, trying to implement the suggestions on her own. She knew she needed to work harder to catch Mr. Conley's attention. Unspoken biases, fuelled by age and societal standards of beauty, cast a shadow over Posy's participation, making her more and more willing to work hard and be in the top three for once. For the first time, she had faith in herself. If Mari could get first, and if Bea could get second, there was no reason why she couldn't get third.
