Alejandro and Tyler had known each other since middle school, but it wasn't until high school that they truly connected. They had both been in the same Spanish class and quickly bonded over their shared love for the language. What started as study sessions and practicing Spanish verbs together soon turned into late night conversations and stolen glances in the hallway. It was obvious to everyone around them that they had fallen for each other.

Despite their young age, Alejandro and Tyler had an undeniable connection. They were constantly laughing and joking around, and whenever they were together, it felt like time stood still. They were each other's first loves, and nothing could tear them apart.

Their relationship quickly became the talk of the school. Everyone envied the love that Alejandro and Tyler shared. They seemed perfect for each other and it was hard to imagine them with anyone else. But little did they know, their love story was about to take a heartbreaking turn.

As they entered their senior year of high school, reality came crashing down on them. With college applications and exams looming over their heads, Alejandro and Tyler were forced to face the harsh truth that their future plans didn't align. Tyler wanted to stay in their small town and attend community college, while Alejandro dreamed of going to a top university in a big city.

They both tried to ignore the elephant in the room, but it was impossible. The once blissful relationship was now filled with tension and uncertainty. They spent less and less time together, Tyler was focused on sports and Alejandro was focused on his grades, and when they did hangout, it was never the same. Their conversations were no longer filled with laughter and inside jokes, but instead with awkward silences and forced smiles.

The cracks in their relationship soon became too big to ignore. One day, in the school cafeteria, Tyler mustered up the courage to ask Alejandro what their future held.

'Are we going to be able to make this work after high school?' Tyler asked, his voice shaking slightly.

Alejandro didn't know what to say. He wanted to fight for their relationship, but deep down, he knew that their paths were heading in different directions.

'I don't know, Amor. We have to face the reality that we may not be able to,' he finally answered, his heart sinking.

The rest of the lunch period was spent in silence, both of them lost in their own thoughts. When the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch, they both knew that their relationship was over.

In the following weeks, they tried to maintain a friendship but it was clear that their feelings for each other were still strong. Every time they saw each other, they were reminded of what could have been. It was a constant battle between their hearts and their minds.

Their senior prom was approaching, and it was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of their high school experience. But for Alejandro and Tyler, it was bittersweet. As they slow danced to their favorite song, they both knew that this would be the last time they would dance together.

As the night came to an end, they couldn't help but feel like their love was a tragic love story. Right person, wrong time.

The summer before college began, they made the difficult decision to cut ties and move on. They both knew that it was for the best, but it didn't make it any easier.

Years went by and they each pursued their own dreams and passions. They occasionally saw each other on social media, but they never reached out. It was easier to keep the memories of their high school love intact, rather than try and rekindle something that could never be.

It wasn't until their ten year high school reunion that they saw each other again. As soon as their eyes met, all the old feelings came rushing back. They spent the whole night catching up and reminiscing about old times. It was as if time had stood still and they were back in high school, laughing and joking around like they used to.

"Hey Al" Tyler whispered, fiddling with his jackets zipper. He looked at the green grass and then into Alejandros matching green eyes.

"Yes Tyler?" Alejandro responded, looking at the jock uncertain, scared of how this would end.

"Do you think if we met as the people we are now, we'd be able to make it work?" Tyler whispered again and smiled at the ground, holding back his own tears.

"Well... if we didn't date back in highschool. we wouldn't be the people we are now." Alejandro whispered. "but I think we'd make it work now. if we could"  The spaniard said as an akward silence fell over the both of them.

The reality of their current lives soon hit them. Alejandro was happily married with two children, and Tyler was in a serious relationship. They both knew that it was too late for anything to happen between them.

As they said their goodbyes at the end of the night, they both knew that this was truly the end. And even though they had found happiness in their own lives, a small part of them would always wonder what could have been if they had met at the right time.

Some love stories are meant to be, but Alejandro and Tyler's was not. But they both knew that the memories of their high school love would always hold a special place in their hearts, and they would always be grateful for the time they had together, even if it was the wrong time.
