Parker's POV
"Crap," I mutter breathlessly as I rush into the school, seeing that I had less than ten minutes until class starts. Today has already started shitty and I don't feel like it's going to get any better. I had to run to school. Run. Anyone who knows me knows that I and running don't go together. The whole damn universe must be against me today. My alarm clock never went off, the dryer quit working so my clothes are still slightly damp, and I missed the bus. I would have asked my mom to drive me to school, but her car had not one but two flat tires.
As I reach my locker, there stands Caden Miles leaning on it with a mischievous grin. Caden is my best friend. My only friend. The thought sours my mood further. We've been friends since we were in diapers and when he had the opportunity to leave me in the dust and make friends with the popular kids, he chose me. I honestly don't know what I would do without him. "Whoa, look what the cat just dragged in," he laughs.
"Morning to you too," I spit out as struggle to open my locker. "Aren't you the greatest best friend," I say sarcastically.
"Don't be that way," he says, opening my locker, "You know you love me."
"You wish."
"Awe, did Parkee wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?" he pinches my cheeks, "why did you miss the bus?"
"It hasn't been my day," I say, blowing a fallen strand of my cinnamon-colored hair out of my face as we walk to our first class. "My alarm clock never went off, and my mom had two flat tires."
"Why didn't you call me? I would have picked you up."
We run to our first class of the day barely making it before the late bell chimes as I explain, "I would have called you, but you know how I told you I was having a bad day," he nods his head, "Well when I plugged my phone into the charger last night, I didn't check to make sure the charger was plugged into the wall. My phone is lifeless."
Caden gives me an amused look before bursting into laughter, "My poor Parkee." He laughs harder causing everyone to stare at us.
"Mr. Miles and Ms. Tidwell, do I need to assign you two after-school detention for disrupting my class?" Wow, that would be the cherry on top of my day.
"Sorry Parkee," Caden whispers.
My face is a bright shade of red from embarrassment as I follow Caden to our seats in the back of the class. The embarrassment only gets worse as I bump into someone's desk, "Watch it, freak," Angela hisses at me. "I'm upset enough without you trying to fall over me! Do you have any consideration for anyone besides yourself?" Dang, what crawled up her bum-hole and laid eggs?
"Why is Miss Thing in a bad mood?" I whisper to Caden as I sit down beside him.
"You didn't hear? Supposedly she dumped Reid after she caught him in bed with another girl."
"Really?" I gasp, pretending like I care. Angela has been nothing but ugly to me since we started high school. I have enough of my problems that I don't need anyone else's to worry about especially hers. Like your lifeless phone. "Can I borrow your charger?"
"Yeah"
"Thank," I say, grabbing his charger from him. "She deserved it. She's horrible to everyone."
"I don't know," Caden says with his gaze on her. "She's a horrible person, but I don't know if that meant she should have been hurt like that."
"And how sure are you that it wasn't her fault that they broke up and she is just trying to get people's pity?"
