Rimuru leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples in exasperation. He stared at the mountain of paperwork that seemed to multiply by the second. It had been 10,000 years since he had reincarnated into the cardinal world, and things had gotten... too peaceful. Sure, Feldway was gone, and the otherworlders had been sent back, but now a new problem had arisen—humanity on Earth across 20 million timelines was in chaos. Feldway, in his last act of insanity, had wiped out the leadership of every Earth timeline.Without those leaders, humanity descended into madness. Rimuru was forced to step in, sending parallel versions of himself to each Earth timeline to keep things in order. But of course, it wasn’t that simple.
Each version of himself was real, not some clone, connected by a soul corridor. Every bit of information funneled back to him in the cardinal world. Ciel managed most of it, but Rimuru still had to oversee the massive influx of data. As much as Ciel liked to mess around these days, she wasn't one for paperwork either.
"Ugh... this is so boring!" Rimuru muttered, slamming his face into the table.
A few papers fluttered off the edge and landed on the floor. He didn’t care. What was the point of all this? Endless signatures, decrees, letters to other nations, management of his parallel selves—it was mind-numbing.
"Ciel, can't you do something about this?"
*“You’re the king, Rimuru-sama. This is your job~.”Ciel’s voice chimed sweetly in his mind, but he could sense her smirking mischievously.
"You’re cheekier than usual, you know that? You’ve been no help with paperwork!"
“But I have been helping! I’ve created several new skills for you, haven’t I? Paperwork is boring~.” She almost sounded like she was laughing at him.
Rimuru sighed. Paperwork. The bane of his existence. Once upon a time, he had dreamed of being a powerful Demon Lord ruling over a prosperous land filled with humans, monsters, and demi-humans. He had imagined thrilling battles, fierce foes, and intense politics. Instead, he found himself buried in administrative work.
"This is the worst! Veldora gets to have fun, Milim’s playing around with star particles, and even Chloe is doing more interesting things than me!"
Rimuru groaned, glancing through his soul corridor to see Veldora and Milim sparring in the Heavenly Star Palace. The two were creating catastrophic explosions of magicules and star particles. The palace was so disconnected from normal space-time that their destructive antics didn’t affect the cardinal world—or any world, really. Milim was the official owner now, as the only daughter of Veldanava.
Milim threw her fist into Veldora’s face, creating a shockwave that sent particles of light flying. Veldora roared back, charging her with a fist full of draconic energy.
Rimuru pouted. "Why do they get to have fun while I’m stuck here doing this garbage?"
As if sensing his frustration, Veldora sent him a mental message. "Ahahaha! Rimuru, it’s because you're too serious! I told you to loosen up!"
“Shut up! You're not helping!” Rimuru shot back.
Meanwhile, Chloe was diligently practicing her imaginary space skills, trying to store more of her chaotic void energy without erasing herself. It was an impressive feat, and she was making progress, though Rimuru was slightly concerned about her safety. Shion was also training, albeit in her own wild way—attempting to run faster than time itself could move. A typical day in Tempest.
Ramiris, of course, was being as mischievous as ever. She had gone back to scheming ways after the war with Feldway, her energy corruption now completely gone. Her power levels were back to an endless supply, and with it came her cheeky, spirited nature. She was currently messing with the traps on the 56th floor of the labyrinth, making them more deadly to trick people into spending more money. She had even pestered Rimuru to open a connection to one of the Earth timelines in her 129th floor, just to see what would happen. Rimuru had no idea why she wanted to do that, but he let her have her fun.
"You guys are all just playing around while I'm drowning in all this!"
Rimuru's eyes wandered to the side, where a projection of Gobta could be seen being mercilessly trained by Hinata. Now that Gobta had evolved into a Kijin, Hinata had taken a special interest in training him. She considered Hakuro too soft on him. Currently, Hinata was swinging a sword at Gobta, who was barely managing to dodge the blows.
Hinata muttered something about "catching up to the troublemakers" while Gobta screamed for mercy.
"Poor Gobta," Rimuru thought with a chuckle. "But hey, at least I'm not the one getting bullied for once."
Ciel, ever the cheeky one, broke into his thoughts again. “Rimuru-sama, don’t you think you’re being a little too dramatic? How about you take a break? Why don’t you go somewhere fun for a change?”
Rimuru sighed again. “I can’t just leave. There are still so many things to deal with.”
“Well, you could at least do something exciting. How about visiting a different world? Not one of the Earth timelines or the cardinal world. Something new.” Her tone was light and teasing, almost daring him.
Rimuru's eyes sparkled. “A different world? Hmmm...”
It had been 10,000 years since he’d gone on a proper adventure. Ciel might actually be onto something. It wasn’t like things were about to collapse without him. He could afford to sneak away for a little while.
Rimuru activated thought communication, pinging Veldora, Milim, Chloe, and Ramiris.
“Hey, I’m thinking of heading to a new world. Want to come?”
Milim’s voice was the first to respond, full of excitement. “A new world?! Of course, I’m in! Let’s go, let’s go!!”
Veldora let out a booming laugh. “
KUHAHAHA! I knew you’d come around, Rimuru! I’m always ready for an adventure!”Chloe, ever calm, added, *“I’ve been wanting to test my abilities somewhere new. Count me in.”*
Ramiris squealed with glee. *“Ooooh! I’ve got some new traps to try out in a new place! I’m coming too!”*
Rimuru chuckled to himself. It was starting to sound like a proper party. Finally, something to look forward to after all the drudgery of ruling.
He grinned. "Ciel, get ready. It’s time for an adventure."
Ciel, ever the playful assistant, replied innocently. “I’m always ready, Rimuru-sama~.”
Rimuru stretched his arms, feeling invigorated. He had been childish, pouting over paperwork, but now he was ready to let loose. If everyone else could have their fun, why couldn’t he?
As he prepared to leave, he couldn’t help but smile to himself. 10,000 years, he thought. Maybe things won’t be so boring after all.
With his mind set and his companions ready, Rimuru began plotting his next destination—a world unlike any other he had visited before. Something wild, something chaotic, something… fun.
Finally, Rimuru could leave the paperwork behind, if only for a while.
The adventure was just beginning.
