The next day, I got to know each brother as we were preparing to leave the decimated village.
Kyokotsu was the first to realize I was a demon, he smelled daiyokai blood in me but decided he wouldn't say anything for whatever reason. He was very arrogant and always hungry, but in other aspects I suppose he was alright. What the hell is he? Is he human? He's a big ass human...and is also the weakest of the seven.
Mukotsu was the shortest among the group, I always noticed that. He had a weird look to him, but compared to the shit I've seen, he was not that ugly. He was always looking for a potential partner but came on far too strong for his own good...he asked me to marry him not even five minutes after I woke up. I realized he did not take well to rejection, Bankotsu told me that had I not been apart of the Band of Seven, Mukotsu would have killed me.
Mukotsu was also the weakest of the Band of Seven too...I think.
Ginkotsu was a cyborg human, and had more of a mechanical body than human. His body was actually constructed by Renkotsu, and I had quickly learned that they were best friends. He seemed to favor Renkotsu and I realized he wasn't much of a talker.
Suikotsu was a kind man, but he had a split personality and his other half was the evil, bloodthirsty murderer that joined the Band of Seven.
Jakotsu hated women usually if they got in the way of him fighting men, and he had a preference for them, but I wasn't sure if it was his sadistic intent to torture them or if he actually wanted to settle down with a man.
He genuinely likes me for some reason though.
Renkotsu was a smart and cunning man, he was always on the move to eliminate weaknesses in the event that it prevented he or his brothers from succeeding. He was definitely more ruthless in most aspects, but after my declaration of loyalty to the Band of Seven, he was far more gentle to me.
Finally...Bankotsu. Bankotsu was the youngest of the Band of Seven but also the strongest. He loves battle just as much as he loves killing. He showed me he was more laid-back and relaxed than his six companions. He strongly believes in loyalty and honor, and he seems to respect it thoroughly, seeing as he accepted me based on words alone.
But I wasn't a FULLY bad person, I'd honor what I said.
"Are we all ready to go?" Bankotsu asked.
"Yeah, I guess." Jakotsu shrugged.
We all then began to leave the village, I turned my head back to see the ruins, this was where my life would change I suppose.
"So, Y/n. Where do you come from?" Bankotsu asked.
"I come from the western lands." I answered.
"Got any family?" Bankotsu asked.
"A mother. That is all." I said.
"Why aren't you with her?" Jakotsu asked.
"Didn't want to be cooped up with her. She would've married me off to some random de-...daimyo." I said.
"Ah, and you don't want that." Bankotsu said.
"Precisely." I nodded.
"Hmm, well it's good you found us. We're all free to do whatever we please, and now, so are you." Bankotsu smiled and walked ahead.
Then, Jakotsu walked up to me.
"Say, Y/n, you don't have a dad?" Jakotsu asked.
I made a sour face, but burst out laughing.
"No. He was killed by his pathetic and foolish naïveté." I sighed.
"You're laughing about that?" Jakotsu asked.
"I disliked him quite a bit." I smiled.
"Hmm...oh! That reminds me! We should get you a weapon!" Jakotsu said.
That made me stop.
"That's right. Bankotsu." I called.
Bankotsu looked back at me.
"Hm?" He asked.
"Can we make a detour? I have to acquire a weapon of mine." I asked gently.
"Sure. Lead the way." Bankotsu shrugged.
I nodded and ran ahead.
"Hope you guys can keep up!" I chuckled as I ran quickly.
The seven men took that as a challenge and quickly raced after me.
Bankotsu was in front of Jakotsu, who was in front of Suikotsu. Renkotsu quickly jumped over Suikotsu and Kyokotsu made a giant leap, skipping past all of them, but then Suikotsu grabbed Renkotsu's head and leapt over him, laughing maniacally.
"You're pretty fast!" Bankotsu said, I looked behind me seeing he was just barely keeping up with me.
"You are too! Didn't expect you to really keep up." I chuckled.
We eventually made it to a temple.
"What's this place?" Suikotsu asked.
"It looks to be a temple." Mukotsu said.
Kyokotsu had to stay outside because he was too large to come in the temple.
"This is my pitiful father's burial grounds. I have a naginata that was confiscated from me by my mother and sealed here." I explained.
"Sealed?" Jakotsu asked.
I turned to him, my fangs extended lightly.
Their eyes widened as I turned back around and walked towards the door of where my naginata was.
"My mother wanted me to discard a life of fighting and battle, and exchange it for the life of a bride. I had rebelled against her and she stole my naginata, my other half, and sealed it away here, thinking I'd never come here because of my hatred for my father." I explained.
My nails grew into claws as I slashed away the seal.
"But she doesn't know how powerful I've grown, meaningless seals like these are mere child's play for me..." I mumbled more to myself than anything.
The door opened and I went inside, seeing my gorgeous naginata stationary. It was floating in a mass of demonic energy.
I coated my hand in ice, imbued with purity.
As soon as the ice touched the demonic energy, it faded away quickly.
I grabbed my naginata, Shiryu, and twirled it in my hand.
"It feels good to have you back..." I smiled.
I could feel my lost power coming back to me, completing me.
I stepped out of the room and regrouped with the rest of the guys.
"Alright. We're through here, let's leave." I said.
"Why didn't you tell us you were a demon?" Bankotsu asked.
"You never asked." I smirked.
Jakotsu gasped at the sight of my weapon.
"Wow! It looks so pretty! What is its name? It suits you!" Jakotsu fanboyed.
"Its name is Shiryu." I answered.
"Shiryu, eh? Catchy name." Bankotsu said.
"It's very well crafted." Renkotsu spoke, running his fingers along the handle.
"Shiryu was forged by my father's best swords smith. I don't remember his name..." I spoke.
"Well, he must have been very talented." Jakotsu said.
"It was crafted from my fang as well." I noted.
"How is that possible?" Mukotsu asked.
"That's not for me to explain." I responded.
We left the temple and suddenly, a crow landed near Bankotsu. He grabbed the note that was tied to the crows ankle, and read it.
How on earth that crow found him was beyond me.
"We have a job." Bankotsu said.
