2/2"Goodbyes, and all of that. I think I'm worse at it than I thought."

Staring down the slowly approaching suit, Penny waited with baited breath for someone to do something, heart hammering away in her chest. From beside her, River suddenly moved, pulling out her squareness gun and firing it at the wall next to them. "This way, quickly! Move!"
Piling in through the gap they found themselves in another aisle of books, River leading the way away from the shadows, occasionally cutting a hole through to another room.
Peeking through a newly formed hole, she yelled back to the group, "Okay, we got a clear spot. In, in, in! Right in the center, in the middle of the light. Quickly!"
They followed her instructions, Penny's eyes almost glued to the floor as she watched her step.
"Don't let your shadows cross." River warned, before turning to the Time Lord. "Doctor..."
"I'm doing it." He reassured, scanning the shadows at the edge of the room.
"There's no lights in here." Penny noticed aloud, carefully eyeing the pitch black corners of the room.
"And sunset's coming." River added, looking up to see the oranges and purples of thee setting sun through the skylight. "We can't stay long. Have you found a live one?"
"Maybe, it's getting harder to tell." The Doctor hit his screwdriver against his palm in frustration. "What's wrong with you?"
"We're going to need a chicken leg. Who's got a chicken leg?" River asked the group, Other Dave pulling one from his bag. "Thanks, Dave."
Unwrapping the meat, River tossed it into the shadow the Doctor was scanning, the meat gone in a second. "Okay, we got a hot one. Watch your feet."
"They won't attack until there's enough of them." The Doctor explained. "But they've got our scent now. They're coming."
As the Doctor moved over to a different shadow, Penny followed behind, peering into each section as if it were helpful at all.
"I'm sorry." The Doctor lowly spoke.
It took Penny off guard, a heartbeat passing before she replied. "For what?"
"Whatever happened to Donna, it could've happened to you."
"Yeah, I guess it could've." Penny hadn't really considered it, she hadn't had the chance to. "But it isn't your fault. You were just trying to keep her safe."
He didn't reply to that, instead focusing on his scan. Groaning in frustration, he held the sonic up to his ear, listening to the buzzing it emitted and frowning.
