The Happening (Ch. 8)

Bright lights and music flooded the Collins manor, cars drove up to the entrance as people got out and made their way inside being greeted by Barnabas "How do you do?" He asked. 

"thank you for having us" An elder woman said, "good Evening, welcome to Collinswood" He answered. "I have to hand it to you, this is a happening" Carolyn smiled as she walked up to Barnabas.

"(Name) would love this" She smirked "you really think so?" He asked to which Carolyn nodded. "Did you ever 'court' her?" Carolyn asked. 

Barnabas stood straighter "you seem quite infatuated by my...attraction towards (Name)" Carolyn shrugged "Shes like family to most of the family and I, shame she's working while this is on" She spoke to which Barnabas grumbled knowing he had told her to not do any work this evening.

"I guess the only thing missing is Alice Cooper" She spoke looking out at the crowded hall, "Perhaps you should go and acquaint yourself with this evening's entertainment" He said to her before walking off.

Barnabas used his mini binoculars to watch Alice perform before lowering them "ugliest women I have ever seen" He spoke before walking off.

Barnabas walked into a part of the house that had been turned into a coat closet, David stood infront of a door as (Name) was finishing the women's job of organizing the coats. 

"Master David, My (Name) where is the female coat attendant?" He asked as David and (Name) turned to look at him, "and why is (Name) doing her job?" He added.

"My dad's talking to her inside, and (Name) offered to help with the job" David said, Barnabas looked towards (Name) who gave a forced small sad smile "hmm" Barnabas thought before trying to enter being stopped by David.

"but he told me to keep everybody out" He said "I'm sure he did David and you've done a marvelous job. But now I would like (Name) and yourself to go watch Alice Cooper with the others" Barnabas said.

(Name) nodded, turning back to hang the last coats up quickly "but my dad-" He began "go and watch the Cooper woman" Barnabas hypnotized making sure (Name) didn't see quickly putting his hand down when she turned around to take him downstairs.

(Name) stopped whispering to Barnabas "what are you going to do?" She asked "nothing for you to worry yourself about love, enjoy yourself" He smiled at her, once she had left he glared at the door.

Barnabas walked into the drawing room to see (Name) on the balcony. "I was wondering where you had snuck off to...thought you may have been working again" He walked to stand next to her.

"I wouldn't dare get caught working" She smiled at him, her smile making his heart feel as though it was beating again, Barnabas placed his hand over hers on the ledge.

"I must say you look stunning in that" Barnabas complimented what (Name) was wearing. "Thank you, and you look stunning in that" "I always adorn these garments" Barnabas looked confused towards her.

"Exactly" (Name) smiled softly before speaking again "there's something about you Barnabas...familiar" She spoke "yes" Is all he said in reply walking closer to her. She looked into his eyes.

"Its almost hypnotic" She spoke "yes...wait no! I have used no such trickery to summon your ardor, I can assure you I would never do such a thing to you my dear" He panicked, "no, I can't explain it, it feels so natural to be around you. It pains me to think one day I may have to move on from Collinsport" She answered.

Barnabas got closer, one hand sitting on her hip the other against her face. "then stay" He whispered pulling her against himself he lent in causing (Name) to slightly pull back. His hand remained on her hip, his other hand going over his mouth.
