Someone calls your name followed by, "Age **. Previous occupation, office clerk. Case, obstruction of justice. Sentence, ninety days. Hmm, you don't seem like someone who did something terrible but in your case you were found cleaning up the crime scene. Did you intend to clean it up or were you told to do it?"

The Fortress of Meropide receptionist asks stoically while filing out your paperwork. Since the homicide case is still under investigation you just answer her all she needs to know.

"I panicked and started cleaning up the mess," you mumble almost incoherently. "I didn't know I wasn't allowed to mop up the erm... ."

"Hmm, how bright of you," she answers back with a yawn.

You just smile in response and you notice how she physically flinches. Once all the paperwork is done, another inmate fetches you and brings you to a boat which takes you to the actual Fortress. Passing by a huge window with an underwater view, you can't help but feel calm.

Smiling gently at the other inmate, both of you reach the main hub and it surprises you how lively everything is inside the feared Fortress of Meropide. You look around innocently, taking in the scenery of the underwater prison. Though you walk quietly, you notice all of their dirty stares. Some whisper with each other, while others run away to call whoever they want.

Fresh meat.

After being ushered to the common areas of the Fortress as well as your assigned dormitory, you are finally left alone. Looking around the room, you weirdly feel at ease. Maybe this time you can finally stop and just calm down. You pat your thigh where you have kept your Pyro Vision in a leather harness for safekeeping before absentmindedly flicking your fingers together in beat. While you hum a simple song, you walk outside your room.

Someone is following you.

But you have to play the part of a naive person and act as if you don't know you are being followed. Ninety days of incarceration. Once you are back on the surface, you know you can go haywire again. You sigh while walking towards the Coupon Cafeteria to get your welfare meal.

"Oof, sorry!"

It takes a second but you stagger and the man who bumped you immediately pulls your arm to steady you. There's a wide grin on his face and his silver eyes are sparkling in delight.

What a handsome and charismatic man.

Your eyes dart over the scars on his face and neck, all the way to his arms. He looks muscular, his grip is strong, and his clothes are styled in a way that he looks important so you meekly bow in response.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there! This is the first time I have seen your face though, did you just come in?"

"I was sentenced this morning," you mumble.

"Is that so? Well then, welcome to the Fortress." His voice is too enthusiastic for welcoming a prisoner but you answer his smile with yours.

The man walks beside you and says, "I think you might not know me yet but I am the Administrator of the Fortress, Wriothesley."

You widen your eyes before saying, "You are the Duke?"

"Yep. You can address me as 'Your Grace' or 'Duke', everyone else does."

He smiles again and you know that the most carefree person in a place full of criminals is probably the most dangerous of them all. You play along with him while he asks you about your case. Both of you casually walk towards the Coupon Cafeteria while he asks you about your life above ground.

Wriothesley stops and turns to face you. He casually fixes his tie before asking, "I know this is going to be ironic but since you have experience in paperwork and other custodial stuff do you mind if I take you in as my temporary office secretary? I need a lot of document filing and cleaning done in my office and I don't have a lot of time. Also, I will pay you! Hmm... The production operator's rate is about two hundred fifty, but you will be dealing with some confidential files... Is three hundred coupons per day with tea and snacks a good deal for you?"

Though he asks politely, you know that it is not a question but an order. He knows something about you and wants to keep an eye on you all the time.

Everybody knows what happened to his homicidal case, either through the heavily documented trial or word of mouth. Some even used his case as inspiration in plays and novels.

Glorifying murder.

You smile and nod, "Is it really okay for me to work under you directly, Your Grace? I mean, I just got here..."

The coldness in his eyes flashes for a second but he immediately masks it with another smile, "Of course! You will only stay here for ninety days so I think it's also better if you keep on doing what you did with your previous work."

You accept his proposal because you know you can't say no. He takes out a pin badge from his inner coat pocket which has the emblem of the Fortress, a howling wolf. Grabbing your shirt, Wriothesley slightly tilts his head to the side as he pins it on the collar of your shirt. He is so close you can see how his chest rises and falls whenever he takes a breath. You can feel his knuckles brush the upper part of your breasts lightly while he fumbles with the pin, but when you look at his hands the pin is already in place. You act meek and keep your eyes down, making sure you don't show any weaknesses to him.

Wriothesley leans closer, his lips on your ears, and he slowly whispers, "Welcome to my Fortress..."

Every single cell in your body is screaming in fear and you suddenly realize that you haven't told him your name yet but he casually says it. Once he is done pinning your badge, he pats your shoulder once before he leaves. His hands are icy cold, enough to leave goosebumps on your neck. You discreetly use your affiliation to Pyro to warm up.

For the first time in a long while, you break into a wide smile.
