Lowen and I are glancing around racks of clothing while Athena is asking me all sorts of questions about myself. I decided against questioning Athena about what happened back in the cafè, she'll talk when she's ready.
"Honey, maybe Vi doesn't feel comfortable talking about herself" Lowen suggests while giving me a small smile.
Athena sighs in defeat and looks sadly at the trinkets on various shelf's. I can't help but feel guilty, how could I ever say no to that cute face. A few questions wouldn't hurt.
"Okay! 5 questions and that's it." I say slowly with a smile.
Athena turns back around and jumps excitedly towards me while Lowen eyes me suspiciously to which I nod back at her. I love that about Lowen, I met her all of 2 hours ago and she is already making sure I'm comfortable as to what's going on.
I turn around to the clothing rack and skim through the clothes trying my best to distract myself from the fact I cannot afford any of them. "What's your first question?" I ask.
"Uhh. What's your favourite colour and why?" Athena says. And before I have a chance to speak she shouts out quickly "And that is one question, not two!"
I laugh. That is totally something I would say so I can't even be mad about that. "Okay okay. My favourite colour is blue, but like icy blue."
I hear a little impatient cough and laugh again. "Because I used to ice skate and the colour reminds me of that" I say.
I look to Lowen and Athena to see them sharing all sorts of looks. I'm seriously about to take back my answer when Lowen screams.
"You used to ice skate?!" Lowen shouts excitedly.
I smile and give a small nod to which Athena begs for me to teach her. The joy quickly fades out of my body and I clear my throat slightly. "Uh. I don't really skate anymore."
Athena furrows her brows and Lowen has a small sad smile on her face. "Why not?" Athena asks.
The colour of my face drains. I didn't expect her to ask why but I kind of did. Lowen sees my facial expression, well lack there of and tries to change the subject.
I shake my head "No, it's fine. I just used to skate with my dad and he's not here anymore. I haven't skated since he passed." There's no point in lying, they'd find out sooner or later when they figure out I don't talk about a mother or father.
Lowen offers me a hug to which I accept and Athena has a guilty look on her face. I know it wasn't a harmful question but it still hurt and she realised that. I've only just gotten to become friends with someone let alone more than one and i've already brought down the mood.
I hurriedly try to change the subject. "But I can teach you if you'd like." I give Athena a small smile when Lowen let's go of me.
Athena's face lights up with hope.
"We're sorry, Vi. If skating will remind you of your dad then you don't have to." Lowen says softly.I shake my head quickly, this is ridiculous. "No no. It'd be nice to get back on the ice, I'd love to."
Lowen smiles and Athena screeches out, "OMG OMG WHEN WHEN!"
I laugh and cover my ears slightly, removing them once Athena stopped shouting and say "How about tomorrow? If you come by my house, we can go to the lake?" YES! spontaneity! I'm totally crushing this thing.
Athena nods hurriedly and turns away to look at some clothes leaving just Lowen and I, looking at eachother.
"I'm really am sorry about your dad, Sugar. I bet he was the best" she says sadly.
I nod. He was. He really was the best. It hurts to think about him but the amount of sadness I feel just shows how great he really was. I smile slightly and I'm pulled out of my thoughts once more when Athena comes trudging back over with both arms full of clothes.
I laugh and Lowen looks shocked. "Okay, let's pay!" Athena says quickly.
"Wait. Athena, if you don't mind me asking. how are you paying for all of that?" I stop laughing to ask.
Athena walks to the front and drops the clothes on the desk. She reaches a hand into her back pocket and pulls out a black credit card. She grins widely and slowly waves the card about.
I hear a huge gasp from beside me and turn to see Lowens jaw dropped to the floor. I look between the two girls confused. Why is it such a big deal Athena has a credit card? Is she a shopping addict. Omg I totally just funded her addiction but suggesting to come here. I'm about to ask whats going on when Lowen says quietly and quickly. "Athena Cooper! that's why you didn't talk to Nolan at the café."
I furrow my eyebrows in confusion then it hits me. The card is Nolan's. Ha this is hilarious. Oh my gosh, imagine his face this is gonna be priceless. No wonder she was acting so odd, omg he is going to go crazy. I burst out laughing and Lowen turns to look at me with a stern glare.
I try stifle my laugh but it just turns into small giggles. "It's not funny Vi! Nolan is going to be so disappointed" Lowen states quickly.
Athena looks at Lowen quickly and stops giggling. "Wait really?" She asks. I stopped giggling as I notice the sadness creep onto her face at the mention of Nolan being disappointed.
Lowen bursts out laughing then. "Probably but oh well, He needs to loosen up." she gasps for air.
Athena shows a small smile that doesn't reach her eyes when suddenly I hear a bell go off and I see the colour fall right out of her face.
I'm about to ask her what happened when Lowen stops laughing too. I turn around slowly only to see an angry Nolan standing at the door with a laughing Johnny and Georgie standing behind him.
Oh...Athena is screwed.
