Sora's Story...

Sora is incredible, a smart, talented, innovative, creative girl with a heart filled with kindness and love. She was first hesitant to talk to me but that never discouraged me, both kids had trouble sleeping at night, so I would sing lullabies to aid them to rest. Sora didn't like them at first, but after a while, there was a particular one that changed something in her. It was a lullaby that my mother used to sing to me, I never knew her, but, then again, I ended up being a mother figure to others. That's a pandora box of trauma to open for another time. 

I remember that very night, it was a stormy, dark night, Arin was fast asleep after a long day of pie baking. Sora was still awake, curled up in her blanket unable to relax, it had only been 2 months since she came into my care and yet, I knew so little about her. As a last attempt, I started to sing,

Take it from someone like me
When your hopes are in despair
If your desires have strings
Feed them, give them some air

I slowly started to make my way to the young girl, who was surprised my by presence. Her eyes widened but instantly softened as she kept listening...

'Cause any wish that's got your heart
On the edge of breaking
Is a wish worth making

I sat on the girl's bed reaching out to rub her back, she was so lost, so hurt by the world, she didn't deserve this pain. She was so young, she needed love...

Yeah, everybody dreams
To be something, someday, somewhere
Even kings and queens
Daydream to be free from their royal chairs

Sora felt a wave of calm and security as the older woman comforted her. She had never felt this kind of love, her parents pushed her away to further her pursuit of academia. She had never known a mother's warmth, a father's safe embrace, a family home, a feeling of security, vulnerability and love. But this feeling, the very warm feeling Sora was experiencing was overwhelming, joyful, warm and as tears started to flow from her eyes, she felt as if she was safe, she felt that she could let her guard down and finally realized she was home...

So, if Hope schemes against Time
Tell them, "Be nice, play fair"
Yeah, they may kick and cry, yeah
But just show them they're better when paired

I feel Sora's embrace around my waist, she's crying, all I knew about the girl was that she had run away from Imperium. The pain of a young girl was strong, whatever she went through was difficult beyond compare. I started to cry as I had finally made a breakthrough with her, she had let her walls come down after who knows how long. She stayed in my arms as I continued the lullaby,

'Cause if they both can hold your heart
There's no way you're not sowing
A dream that will never stop growin'

Sora felt a drowsy wave hit her, she had felt safe enough to sleep and as she slowly fell asleep, she listened to the woman's song before falling asleep.

Yeah, any wish that's got your heart
On the edge of breaking
Is a wish worth making
