Enjolras was sat in one of the back rooms in the cafe. He couldn't shake the thought that many more of his friends would die, and because of his revolution. It was a lot to take in.

Grantaire stood in the doorway. "Hey, Enjy." He smiled weakly.

"Hey."

"How are you doing?"

"Not great. Grantaire, what if we all die?"

Grantaire pressed a finger to the blonde's lips. "Now, I'm having none of that from our brave leader."

"I'm not brave."

"Please, if you don't think you're brave then you don't know what it means."

Enjolras smiled at Grantaire. "How is it that you always know what to say?"

"It's a talent."

Enjolras laughed and stood up. "Maybe we should go and try to cheer everyone else up."

"Sounds good, but before we do that.." Grantaire took Enjolras' face in his hands and softly kissed his lips.

Enjolras let out a sigh as Grantaire's smooth, warm lips pressed against his own. Grantaire's skin smelt like damp from the rain and he could faintly taste the alcohol Grantaire was always drinking.

They both closed their eyes as the pleasure of the kiss washed over them. Grantaire held Enjolras close, his hands on the small of his back, scrunching his shirt into a ball in his palm whilst Enjolras gripped Grantaire's shoulder with one hand, the other buried in his damp curls.

When they pulled away, their breathing had become short and fast.

"Now we can go and cheer them up." Grantaire laughed.

Early the next morning, Enjolras received word that the other barricades had fallen and no one else had joined them. He hated to do it, but he knew that he had to tell the others.

"Guys, I have an announcement." he said and everyone immediately fell silent. "The people have not joined us; they are too afraid. If anyone wishes to join them, you may go." No one moved and Enjolras felt slightly relieved.

"Let's not forget why we're doing this." Everyone turned to look at Gavroche. "We are angry because the poor are treated unfairly. We will not stand for this. We all want this, so let's continue to fight for it!"

"Vive le France!" everyone cheered.

That's when everything started to go wrong.
