I pressed my lips into a thin line while my mate breathed a sigh of relief, and I looked at her while I raised an eyebrow in question. "What?" I asked. "What is it? Are you ok?"
She shrugged, and her cheeks grew red while she looked at her fingers. "I don't know," she said, her voice barely above a whisper before she cleared her throat and shifted on her bed. "I just wanted to breathe a sigh of relief."
I bit back a small chuckle and slowly nodded. "Are you nervous?" I asked while I looked at her with a raised eyebrow, and she hesitated before she slowly nodded.
"I am," she confirmed before she cleared her throat while she rubbed her belly. "I don't know if I want to keep the baby," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
I pressed my lips into a thin line and slowly nodded. Worry flashed through my eyes, and I grabbed her hand and squeezed it, reassuringly.
She looked at me and bit back a small smile. She didn't say a word while she dipped her head closer to her chest.
My mate cleared her throat before she shifted in the bed and then she cleared her throat again. "What are you wanting to do with it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper while she looked at me, and I shrugged and grimaced.
"That is up to you," I replied and squeezed her hand reassuringly. "I will support you in whatever decision you decide."
Georgie breathed a sigh of relief before she slowly nodded. "This is going to be weird," she said and moved her hand over her stomach, and I chuckled and nodded.
"I know," I said before I cleared my throat and squeezed her hand, reassuringly, "but this is going to be worth it."
My mate furrowed her brows before she slowly nodded. She didn't say a word while she shifted on the bed while we waited for the doctor to come back.
I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. "After this, do you want to see if you can leave the hospital?" I asked, changing the subject, and she looked at me before she slowly nodded.
"I think so," she said before she furrowed her brows and dipped her head closer to her chest. "Where am I going to live?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper before she looked at me again. "I don't want to go back to that house."
"You will live here," I said with a slow nod, "at the pack house. You will get your own room, and then the twins will have their own rooms, too. They will be near your room, of course."
Georgie pressed her lips into a thin line before she cleared her throat and shifted in her bed. She bit the inside of her lip and shifted in her bed some more. "Do you think I could be in a different house?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper while she looked at me.
I raised an eyebrow in question and ignored the sting in my heart. "Why?" I asked, and her cheeks turned red while she looked away from me. "Why do you want to be in a different house than this one?"
Georgie didn't say a word and shrugged. She wanted to say something; I could tell, but for some reason, she didn't have the courage to say it.
"Georgie?" I asked while I squeezed her hand, comforting her a little, and she looked at me before she looked away, not able to meet my gaze. "Please. What do you mean by that? Why do you want to be in a different house?"
She hesitated before she shrugged and cleared her throat again. Her cheeks turned redder and seemed to cover her whole face, and I couldn't help but think that she looked cute. "I don't want to be a burden," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Georgie," I said with a small laugh before I shook my head, amused. I squeezed her hand some more before I lifted her hand and kissed the top of it while I stared at her. "You aren't a burden, Georgie," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "You won't be a burden if you stay here."
She didn't say a word while she looked at her hands and shrugged. Her heart skipped a beat before it started to pound harder and faster in her chest, and I could tell that she was nervous but also pleased.
"Can you let me know why you want to live in a different house, please?"
Georgie hesitated before she slowly nodded and cleared her throat. "I just want to live in a different house with my brother and sister." She licked her lips and shifted some more in her bed. "If you want to live there too, you can. I won't mind."
I slowly blinked and set my jaw, not sure why she didn't just tell me why she didn't want to live here.
Was she that ashamed of me?
Finally, Georgie sighed and sank back into the bed. She closed her eyes and dipped her head closer to her chest before she cleared her throat. "That's not what you mean, is it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
I bit back a small chuckle before I shook my head. "No," I said before I cleared my throat and grew serious. "That isn't what I mean."
She slowly nodded before she cleared her throat and licked her lips, and her cheeks grew red. "I am nervous that someone is going to say something," she said honestly, "and I don't know if you are comfortable with us being out in public..."
I couldn't help but chuckle before I shook my head, slightly amused. "I will always be comfortable with us being out in public together." I pressed my lips into a thin line and shifted in my seat. "My father on the other hand..."
She hesitated before she slowly nodded and bit the inside of her lip. "I think that is another reason why I should live in another house," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't want to step on any toes or make anyone feel uncomfortable."
"He won't hurt you," I said and shook my head before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. "I promise." I bit back a small sigh and shook my head again. "However, you won't step on any toes or make anyone feel uncomfortable. Ok?"
She didn't say a word and set her jaw, and I couldn't help but frown because I could tell that she didn't believe me.
There was a chance that he could and would...
I bit back a small sigh while I grabbed her hands and squeezed them, reassuringly. "Hey," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Look at me, Georgie. Please."
She hesitated before she did what I said and looked at me. Her whole body was tense, and her eyes were wide, and I could see the pain and fear in them, and I didn't like it one bit.
"He isn't going to hurt you," I said again before I shook my head. "I won't allow it. Ok? If that means that you want to live in a separate house, then you can live in a separate house like you want." I paused and cleared my throat while I shifted in my seat. "Your siblings will be able to live with you as well as your child, if you want to keep it."
My mate hesitated before she slowly nodded. She didn't say a word while she looked away from me, biting the inside of her lip.
She looked exhausted, worn out, and I had a feeling that she needed some time to herself to think everything over... alone.
I bit back a small sigh and moved a hand across from my face before I shook my head and cleared my throat. "Do you want to get some rest?" I asked, changing the subject, and she looked at me with a poker look on her face. I bit back a small smile while I dipped my head closer to my chest. "I can come back later if you want."
Georgie hesitated before she slowly nodded and turned her head away so that she didn't look at me. "Please," she said before she cleared her throat and shifted in the bed, and my heart broke a little, even though I understood. "I do need some time alone so that I can rest and everything like that."
I bit back a small smile before I slowly nodded. "Ok," I said before I cleared my throat and pressed a small kiss to her forehead, and she closed her eyes a little. "I'll check on your siblings for you while you get some rest, ok?"
Georgie bit back a small smile and slowly nodded. "Ok," she said. "Thank you."
"Of course," I said and with that, I squeezed her hand before I left the room, leaving my mate and my heart behind.
Goddess, please make sure that my mate stays safe.
Please...
