My name is Juno Rocfelle. I am burdened with destructive power. I first discovered my power the day that I received news of my big brother's death in war. He was a knight and had just finished his training, and they shipped him to war. He fought valiantly, but still he perished. I was devastated upon hearing the news. I ran away with my eyes shut hard, trying to ignore the tears. When I came back later that day, I saw the ruins of my village. I asked a survivor what had happened.

"You ran out just in time," he said, "everything exploded and crumbled as you were running away."

I was very young and hated to hear this, "was anyone hurt?" I asked timidly.

The man's face sunk and he nodded slowly, "yes."

I ran to my home to find my parents. They were trapped beneath rubble and wreckage. I scrambled to pry them loose. My mother's breath was ragged and so was my father's.

"Juno," my father said, "thank goodness you're alright—" he coughed up blood.

"Papi!" I cried.

"Don't cry, sweetie," my mother struggled, "your papi and I are going to a better place-"

I shook my head, "don't say that mami!"

"We'll say hi to Rowan," mami said.

"Juno," papi coughed, "we love you."

Their breathing ceased being ragged, in fact it ceased entirely. I grabbed papi's face and yelled.

"Papi!"

Nothing.

I looked over at mami. I scrambled to her and pulled her out of the wreckage.

"Mami!!" I cried.

I kicked away from them both. I was afraid. I craned my head back and unleashed a cry of anguish. In that moment I heard this buzzing and then it got louder... then it burst and sent debris flying in every direction. I kept crying, and more and more bouts of destructive energy were released. I was reduced to hiccupping sobs and struggled to stop it. Don't cry, she said. I took a deep breath and forced the rest to stop. I pent it up inside of me and forced it under padlock and chains. Then I brushed my hair from my face and looked around. I was sitting in the middle of a massive crater and I saw my entire village as piles of rubble.

My eyes widened and I started shaking. I wobbled to my feet and stumbled to where I had found the man earlier. I couldn't find him. Then I saw a boot sticking out from a pile of concrete rubble. I yanked it out and gasped. It was a person, and the person was a bloody mess. I jumped back and shook my head.

"No, no, no, no..." I said repeatedly. I forced my gaze away from the village and ran away. I didn't know where to go. I just knew I couldn't stay there.

I had grown accustomed to solitude, but I was constantly reminded of what I did because I couldn't seem to control it. Sporadically, anything I passed would self-destruct. This is why I stayed away from people.

Until one day...

I was fuming because I had found the most beautiful cherry blossom tree around, and my curse destroyed it. I sat sniffling next to the stump after I had arranged rocks and flowers around it as a sort of grave. I wiped my nose and forced myself to cease my sniffling, so then I just stared at the stump.

Don't cry, she said.

"Hey kid," a man's voice rang out behind me.

My eyes became the size of the moon and I jumped to my feet. I huddled behind the stump and squinted my eyes shut, "stay away from me!"
