ALEC

I headed back downstairs to crash on the couch as planned, but I got a surprise when Lana emerged from the kitchen with two small glasses.

I descended the stairs, puzzled by the glasses and the unusual smile on her face. Lana never smiles like that.

"To unexpected reunions with old friends," she said, handing me a glass filled with the familiar amber liquid.

"Old colleagues," I corrected, taking a sip.

Whiskey

"Is that what we're calling it now?" Lana replied, looking at me over her glass as she took a sip of her drink.

I placed the glass on the coffee table and sat down on the couch.

"We used to work together, right?"

She smirked, copying my move and joining me on the couch. She scooted closer, making me uneasy. I tried to keep some space, but it didn't work.

Dammit.

This is what I feared might happen while we're here.

"Hmm, but we were more than that," she said, placing her hand on my shoulder. "I remember we did more than just work."

Her hand trailed down my chest, and I clenched my jaw. The familiar touch sent a jolt through me, stirring up some excitement.

"I remember how close we were," she murmured in my ear, and I slowly turned my head to look at her.

"What are the odds? The one person I've truly had a lot of fun with unexpectedly showed up at my doorstep and is now sitting on my couch."

Her hand started drifting southward, but I managed to intercept it just in the nick of time.

"Lana," I cautioned with a stern look.

She responded with a grin and suddenly hopped on top of me, straddling me on the couch.

"What's the matter, baby? You used to love it when I got on top."

I wrestled to keep her hands at bay, stealing glances anxiously upstairs where Luna was peacefully sleeping.

"Are you worried your little side mission might hear us?" she taunted, smirking as I shot her a narrowed gaze. "No need to worry; she can join the party if she wants."

Before I could react, she forcefully pressed her lips against mine, initiating a kiss.

I forgot how I used to find this behavior attractive before but right now, it's starting to tick me off since she came onto me so unexpectedly.

Granted, we had a history together and messed around a little bit while she was still working for the CIA. But right after she left after discovering her betrayal, my trust and interest in her dissolved into dust.

She broke the kiss and started planting them down my neck. I gripped her shoulders and tried to push her away, but she was relentless, making my attempts futile.

"Lana, stop," I insisted with a firm tone, but she paid no heed.

"Lana, seriously, get off me," I pleaded once more, hearing her chuckle.

"Just do me a favor and pretend you're enjoying this as much as I am," she murmured against my skin.

"What favor?" I asked, puzzled.

"Making your job easier by getting rid of your side mission, which was a total waste of time and I don't know what you were thinking. But I do know how much this ops mean to you so she's only going to hold you back and get you killed if you don't send her back to where she belongs."
