Chapter 1-Bowling Night!
"You guys need to hurry up!" I said exasperated. "I need to get to the elementary school, Emily is going to be waiting" I said pulled at Zack's arm. He is my ride, and he is just hanging around with Sam. "Come on Amanda, just one more game!" he said trying to get me to let them play one more round of their racing game. I gave him my look and he got up. "Talk to you later" he said waving good bye. I run over and give Mitch, Teresa and Brittney hugs. I grab my bag and my violin case and head to Zack's truck.
I go to Hillside church and school. There is only five other people that are in my grade. And only ten more people in the high school. It is extremely small, but I love it because I have known everyone since first grade. We did have Josh, but then he had to go to public school right after middle school. He still goes to our church and youth group though. So we still get to see him.
I hop on into the truck and set my heavily stickered violin case beside me. I have been adding to that since I got it. Which was about nine years ago. The violin was the first instrument I played and it is also my favorite. I also play the cello, bass, viola, piano, and bass guitar. I love music, as you would have guessed. It comes naturally to me. I teach Emily violin every Thursday. She is a really nice girl and I know she has a lot of talent. I don't want her to be waiting for the teacher it should be the other way around.
"It will be fine, she always understands" he said running his hand through his dark brown hair. "I know, it's sad that she is used to it though" I said smiling. "You're probably right" he grinned. We pulled into the elementary school. "Thanks for taking me" I said. "No problem, I'll be back in an hour" he said. I nodded and headed into the school.
I walked into the orchestra room and sat down next to Emily. She had her classic pig tales in. Bright blonde hair and blue eyes. She is such a cutie. "Sorry I'm late!" I said. "Nick was playing video games again, wasn't he?" she asked. "Your exactly right" I smiled. "Do you want to start with Amazing Grace?" I asked. I got out my sheet music folder and found Amazing Grace. She nodded and got her copy out. "One, two and three, four" I counted her off. She started off very well and then got a little lazy on counting toward the end. "Okay, start again on measure 20 and try to add vibrato" I said. She started again and did it flawlessly. "That was great what do you want to do next?"
"Okay, so I need you to practice at least twenty minutes a day" I said. "Alright, I'll try" she said sheepishly. "You did a good job today" I told her. "Thanks, I did work hard this week" she said. I smiled at her, "See you next week" "Oh, I forgot to tell you. I'm coming to the bowling alley tonight to watch you guys play" she smiled proudly at me. "Oh cool, I'll be looking for you" I said. "Bye, Miss Amanda!" she waved at me. "Bye, Emily!"
I packed up my violin and walked to the front door of the school to wait for Nick to come pick me up. After about five minutes he drove in. I grabbed my violin case and hopped back into the car. "Thanks for picking me up" I say to Nick. "No problem, as I say ever week" he laughed. "I can't help but be a polite person" I smiled back at him. We jammed out to Casting Crowns and Mercy Me. Those are our favorite bands. We drove back to the school for our band rehearsal. We have a cool sound-proof room in the back of the school so that's what we always use. We drove up to our little school.
It has First-Sixth in one building. And then the Middle School and High school are in the same building just one the opposite sides. Basically all of us hang out in the band room the entire day. It's a lot easier to do work on a couch and coffee table than it is to do work on a hard chair and cold desk. Plus, Miss Williams doesn't car anyway. She is only twenty-five years old and likes to hang out with us more than she likes working.
I walked on into the band room and sat my stuff down on our big leather couch, courtesy Brittney. Her family is pretty rich. But unfortunately they are always working, and I mean always. She could have a party that lasted a week, take an entire month to clean up and her parents wouldn't even know. "Hey guys, I'm back!" I called. They were already in the sound booth working on a few pieces. Mitch had just walked in with a big box. I ran over to help her. "Are you all right? What is this stuff?" I asked all in a rush. "It's our outfits for tonight" she said still struggling with the box. I helped her set it down on the coffee table. "What do you mean?" I asked. "I confess, I got us new outfits, I splurged a little" she grinned. I opened the box. "Wow"
