In my opinion, there are three ways to heal after experiencing a tragedy. They can be used individually or for better results do all three.
1. Forgive and forget- You can't heal if you are still blaming yourself for what happened or refuse to continue live your life.
2. Be surrounded by things you love- Spend your time doing things that make you happy or feel more relaxed and peaceful.
3. Love your horse- That's my favorite rule. No matter what happens, your horse will never turn on you. It won't take bullshit and always improves your mood and makes you feel lighter and peaceful.

Live by these rules and your life will remain happy and healthy. You won't have all consuming thoughts about all you did wrong. It can help you really live again, because I mean, why be alive when you're not really living.
