The weekend came and went, much more quickly then I would have like. The weekend was spent unpacking and riding around the property make sure there was nothing unsafe and the fences were still in good shape. The last thing we needed was to lose our mares, each being worth over $50,000. We kept our stallions in individual paddocks away from the mares so they don't get excited and uncomfortable. Today was Monday, the dreaded day for me and a few unlucky others. We'd spent all of last night begging- literally on our knees begging- to appeal to our parents better side. But no such luck, so here I was standing in jean cutoff shorts and my typical tank top and flannel.
I was loving the cooler weather. Doing chores was much more comfortable here than back in Utah. I waited for the boys to come down, knowing that i was going to be lectured on the length of my shorts even though they appreciated it on other girls. They were taking a ridiculously long time especially for guys. It always took them so much more time than me. And I had to brush my ridiculous hair that was thick and curly and literally went down to my ass. I didn't care much about my appearance so i rarely looked in the mirror, maybe once or twice a week.
Since I was ready I decided I would drive and just sat in the truck until they were ready. The truck was awesome, we got it a few years ago and started upgrading everything about it and jacking it up and made it look pretty badass. The thing was huge I loved it. All at once the front door opened and out came my younger brothers John, Kyle, Tristan, and Luke. Luckily in the family we were raised well and matured early so they weren't as annoying and immature as most younger brothers.
Arguing and hitting each other they all ran for the passenger seat and started grumbling when Luke got it. The drive was long and quiet since it took 20 minutes just to get off of our property and another 20 to get to the school. Since we were all used to getting up at 4:30 anyways weren't tired like most teens would be. Finally pulling up to the school we all grabbed our bags and got out of the truck. It was kind of surreal, like a movie almost when everyone stopped what they were doing. It was/understandable as our truck was loud and not something you could miss, as well as we probably looked like the Weasly's with our red hair standing out amongst the other students.
While my brother's basked in the attention, it made me uncomfortable so I was extremely relived when we made it inside of the office. Once away from the scrutinizing stares of the other students I took a deep breath and tried to stop my fingers from shaking. Kyle noticed me trying to calm down and asked if I was okay, to which i gave a stiff nod and kept taking deep breaths just wanting to get this all over with. After finding our lockers we started shifting through all of the books and forms. Sadly I was the only senior which meant I didn't have my brother's to help keep me calm.
While grabbing the required books for my first few classes I noticed someone leaning on the locker next to mine. They were obviously waiting for me to acknowledge them but I really didn't feel like being around anyone so i closed m locker and started walking class, hoping he would get the hint. But no, he continued walking right next to me until I walked into the classroom without a single glance his way, hoping I didn't have any classes with him.
Classes passed quickly, I found all of the subjects easy because I was a very quick learner an didn't need much instruction. I kept my head down, avoiding eye contact so people would leave me alone- pathetic I know- and it seemed to work. I just didn't enjoy human company unless it was my family or someone that I trusted. I definitely didn't want any girl friends, they caused unnecessary drama, my sister-in-law told me that herself after going to public school her whole life. Before long the dreaded lunch bell rang and i all but sprinted out of the classroom wanting to find somewhere to sit before everything got too crowded. After answering numerous texts from my brothers and my parents about how I was feeling since they were worried about my being around so many unknown people, especially girls. The only women in my life was my mom and even she wasn't very girly so I didn't know how to act with all of this. I was much more comfortable around guys since that's how I was raised but I still didn't enjoy being around them if I wasn't familiar with them.
I walked outside and picked a table that was mostly hidden in the shade before pulling out a new book I had started the night before. I heard someone shifting and setting their stuff on the table but I ignored it and kept reading. At least I tried until they cleared their throat and said "You're in our seat." I assumed the one standing in the middle said it, he had short black hair and a tall but filled out frame, behind him were what I assumed were his friends and all three of them were very attractive. But I was never one to get tongue tied. "So? I' not moving so you can either find another table or sit down and leave me alone" I said. They all stared at me in shock, their mouths slightly opened as they shamelessly stared at me.
"What?" I snapped, starting to lose my patience. They continued to stare. I started reading again and they all sat down but I could still feel their eyes on my so I closed my book and glared at them all before saying "Staring is rude. I know we red-heads are quite a sight but it's annoying so go stare at one of my brothers. At least they would enjoy the attention." they looked taken aback once again by my sarcastic tone. I raised an eyebrow waiting for a response. "Uh-h, everyone was just saying how shy and quiet you have been all day. You just kind of surprised us that's all." said a tall and athletic brunette "I'm Jake by the way. And this is Cody" he pointed to the kid with the black hair who had spoken to me first. "And this is Ryan" the tall lanky blonde that had what appears to be a flirty smirk etched on his features.
"And what's your name?" they all looked at me expectantly. I sighed knowing that they weren't going to leave me alone "I'm Blake"
"Isn't that a boys name?" asked Ryan
"I'm the only girl in my family so they figured there was no point in giving me a girly name when they figured it wouldn't fit me. Besides I like Blake, it fits my personality well." they all made a sound of understanding.
"Aren't you the girl that ignored Brody all morning?" Cody asked with a small smile. My eyebrows scrunched up in confusion. "Who?"
"That guy that was like following you around this morning and hung out by your locker to find you before lunch?" He was looking for me at lunch? That as a bit creepy.
"oh yeah, what was his deal anyways? He couldn't seem to take the hint that i didn't want to talk to him." They all smirked and it made me feel slightly uneasy.
"Why my dear red headed friend-" "I'm not your friend" I interjected. "-he is quite interested in you and will most likely try to seduce you with his sexy bad boy ways" Jake said, putting air quotes around the last part. They all smiled when my normal scowl reappeared on my face.
"How do I get him to leave me alone?" I asked, sounding a little desperate. I realy don't enjoy attention. Especially from some guy that only wants to get in my pants
Good luck with that. I think sarcastically. To say the boys looked extremely shocked would be an understatement.
"What!?" they shouted in unison. Causing a few curious glances our way.
"You don't want his attention??" Cody asked sounding completely astonished. "Every girl would kill to be you." "I doubt it" i murmured so quietly no one could hear me. They all gave me high fives before telling me to stay away because he really was bad new. Not that it would be a problem, I'm not someone you want to mess with and if by some miracle I didn't scare him off, my 8 protective brothers wold scare him off for sure.
