Chapter 34

"It is clear I'm not welcome in this house anymore. Thank you for the meal, but I lost my appetite" Rain said and left the table. As he reached the door, he turned back to see Payu's reaction. He was afraid that Payu could regret his decision to date Rain, but no, Payu was already far from the table and wanted to calm him down.

Payu surely loved his parents and he didn't want that argument to escalate any further. His mission was basically impossible, since he wished to make both Pete and Rain calm down before one of them could leave the battlefield. Pete actually looked like he could be about to surrender after the first fight, but Rain didn't see so willing to accept it.

"It's useless" Rain whispered as his new boyfriend grabbed his wrist to ask him to stay in the room, but as Payu turned to look at the spot were Pete was sitting, he found it empty. Neither Vegas was there. In fact, as the whole scene unfolded, Pete realized that he wasn't in the right condition to apologize genuinely, so he preferred to leave.

Vegas wasn't sure about the reason why Pete left, so he followed him to see what was going on. He found him on the balcony with a cigarette between his slender fingers. Vegas smirked a little and came closer to him.

"Where is the life coach who knows everything about health?" Vegas asked sarcastically. An angry Pete would have glared at him and told him to fuck off, but Pete wasn't angry, and so as he turned to face his husband, he had a sad smile on his face. Vegas realized that the situation was changing much more rapidly than what he thought.

"Am I a little... overprotective?" Pete asked.

"Well, overprotective is an understatement, but I don't blame you. Surely his relationship with Rain could have had a much better beginning, but it is his life, and as long as he doesn't do anything dangerous, we have no right to interfere" Vegas explained.

"Thankfully I'm not the only one who thinks that they didn't start the right way. It is just that... that I saw myself in Som: calm and in love, I thought he could be the right person for Venice just like I was the right one for you, but apparently I was wrong..." Pete added.

"You are not alone, Pete... you have a son who loves you... and a husband who loves you too... most of the time" Vegas replied without dropping his joking tone. Pete chuckled and punched his husband's shoulder.

"You're an asshole as usual... do you think he would accept an apology?" Pete asked.

"Would you accept it if you were him? I actually wonder if you really care about what he thinks of you" Vegas replied.

"To be honest, I don't care... but I know that our son cares. If I'm not able to fix this mess with Rain, Venice will blame me for a long time and our relationship won't be the same anymore... I'll apologize to him tomorrow"

"Tomorrow? Why not now?"

"It is better to let him cool down before that, or it will just make things more difficult"
