Azariah's pov
Twenty years old, mated, and lives on my own. Yet here I was, hiding under the back deck like a teenager trying to sneak out of the house.
I suppose that's exactly what I was doing though. Any second I needed to make a run for it, then dive into the lake/portal and swim to Selena's island. All without being detected I might add.
I'm sure Seraya had better things to do than watch the lake. She did have two mischievous pups and one holy terror of a cat to look after. Xavier on the other hand, he just might have the time to stare mindlessly out the kitchen window towards the lake. I certainly didn't need anyone catching me going under water, and not resurfacing. That'll be a hard one to explain.
Not impossible. But hard.
While everyone else left the house ten minutes ago, I went back up to my room saying I forgot something. I didn't want to spend any amount of time with Selena and Kratos while I was dripping wet, so I put on the next best thing to a bathing suit. Spandex shorts and a form fitting tank top. I neatly fold my jeans and blouse and set them on top of the no-naked box. Yes, that's what Jace and I started calling it. My shoes I leave on the ground with my socks rolled and tucked inside of them.
My fingers comb through my hair until the tangles are mostly gone. I make a quick braid, then use the elastic that was around my wrist to secure it with. I crouch down, and get ready to make the mad dash. I haven't personally measured it, but I'm guessing from where I was standing to the edge of the lake was about seventy, maybe eighty feet. Alright, time to do this.
Ready! Set! And go!
My legs pump so hard that I barely have enough time to feel the soft grass under my bare feet as I fly as fast as possible. My final step I take a giant leap, then dive head first into the lake. I couldn't chance resurfacing, so I swim under water towards the middle, until I see the light. When I'm within an arm's reach of it, I get sucked under, straight to the bottom. Since I expected this, I don't panic that I'll run out of oxygen before coming out on the other side.
Reaching out to touch the cool sand, my fingers slide across it one minute, and the next they're met with a warm breeze. Once my head pops out of the water, I quickly look around to make sure I was in fact on the Isles of Selena, and not still back at home.
Three tree's and the half moon that was here earlier greet me like an old friend. A friend I had cut ties with for valid reasons. And yet, here I was, coming back for more.
Looking around, I'm pretty sure this is the exact spot that bitch has drowned me in twice already. I know I'm supposed to swim to the shore, then call out for them, but I stay where I am for what feels like far too long.
Did I really want to do this? I haven't exactly had time to cool off yet, but I did have a ton of questions. And some grievances to launch as well. However, I keep seeing my parents' faces, and it feels like I'm betraying them just by coming here. What Selena told me earlier about them being destined to never have pups hurts my heart. How could those two be destined for such a thing? They were amazing parents, I can't imagine how their lives would have turned out otherwise.
But was it really fair of me to turn my back on my biological parents? Especially Kratos. He literally had no say in the matter. Selena felt guilty about my brother, so she sent me somewhere that she could see me everyday, unlike when he was growing up. Maybe, if she just had of grown a set of balls and stood up to Zeus, and supported her husband none of this would be happening. Well, it wouldn't be happening to me. Jace, Micah and Amber would still be in this mess though. That's not a thought I can stomach.
Slowly, I make my way to the shore, then square my shoulders for what was to come. "Selena, Kratos," I call out in a clipped tone. Just because I chose to come here, didn't mean I was happy about it. Hopefully these two could help me figure out what I was capable of doing. More specifically, if I could just end this mess myself. If I could do that without having to put my mate or best friend in danger, or anybody else, I at least owed it to them to find out.
