Elderia was once a place bursting with magic and wonder. There were lush forests, filled with secrets sealed away in the trees for thousands of years, and mountains so high it seemed you could never reach the top. The whole continent was ruled over by the mighty ruler Lucreys Starkey, of the Lethandriallen Empire. There were great celebrations, magic festivals, and order between the people. Lucreys kept the peace on the continent, as did his father, and his father before that. Though, as in any fairytale, peace doesn't last long, unfortunately. Lucreys was murdered by the great sorceress, Evangaline the Red, at the old age of 87. Though this was not a peaceful death, as rather than poisoning the Emperor and being done with it, Evangaline wanted him to have an extravagant death, so to speak. The sorceress cut the man up, limb by limb, for an ancient blood ritual, then putting the leftover limbs in the center of the empire for all to see. Though Evangaline didn't know her actions would cause a civil war amongst the continent, commonly referred to as The Trials of the 7, or The Great War. The Elderian people were horrified by the magic used for the death of their beloved emperor, hence causing many of the continent to want to ban magic permanently. Though, of course, not everyone was keen on removing magic from the world forever. The people argued on what to do with witchcraft. War broke out, and they fought, and fought, and fought, and fought, until the population split in half, and both sides practically begged for peace. Seven Trials were inflicted upon the land, to test how dangerous exactly magic really was. Even after the trials, and magic was seen as safe, with precautions of course, many still voted against it. As no one could come to a final decision of the presence of magic, the High Council and the new crowned Emperor, Evandel Starkey, first born son of Lucreys, came to the conclusion to split the continent in two: The Northern Lands, were magic wasn't allowed under any circumstances, and Southern Elderia, were magic remained abundant.
