"What's he doing?" asked Sonic.

"He's been out there for ages!" North added.

"You don't think...Something's wrong do you?" Charlie put the question out to the group.

"I hope not," Babe answered, shaking his head slightly.

They all stood in Alan's spacious lounge, peering out through the front window onto the driveway.

Charlie hissed as he inhaled, "Ah... I really think something's not right. Jeff, you should go out and check."

"Why me?" Jeff asked hastily

"Because you're his boyfriend", North rebutted.

Jeff scratched his head. They were right.

"Go on", North ushered Jeff out through the now open front door.

As Jeff made his way across the grey concrete, thoughts ran circles around his mind.

What if there really was something wrong? How would he deal with it? How would Alan deal with it? He shook himself back to reality. "Don't be negative Jeff, think good thoughts. It will all be OK" he muttered.

Only Alan's denim clad legs were visible as Jeff approached. The metallic grey door of Alan's brand new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon was ajar, hiding the rest of Alan's body behind it.

Jeff spoke tentatively, "Hey Phi. You've been out here quite a while, we're all wondering what you're doing".

No response. This wasn't good.

He tried a second time, slightly louder.

"Phi"

Again no response. Jeff could feel a bead of sweat forming under his long fringe.

He was behind the Alpha now, gently placing a hand on his back he tried speaking one last time. "Phi"

The touch startled Alan who clearly hadn't been aware of Jeff's presence.

"Can you see that?" He said to Jeff, pointing toward the black leather on the Jeep's front passenger seat.

Jeff looked at Alan. He had crazy eyes. This wasn't good. Jeff needed to tread carefully. He leaned forward, trying desperately to see what he clearly couldn't.

"Errr, I'm not sure Phi. What am I looking for?"

Wrong answer. Alan's voice exploded. "Don't tell me you can't see it? It's right there. That stain! Looks like oil of some kind"

Still unable to see anything except black stitched leather Jeff decided it wasn't worth arguing over

"Ahh that. Yes, sorry I thought we were looking for something....else"

Alan rubbed his neck "Two weeks. I've had it for two weeks Jeff and the seat's ruined!"

Ruined was somewhat of an exaggeration. Jeff let out a small chuckle. Yet another mistake.

"Oh well it may be a joke to you my friend but I am not finding this at all funny". He was pacing now as he spoke. "I tried so hard to keep it in pristine condition and now look....." his voice trailed off.

Normally Jeff wouldn't take issue with Alan's slip of the tongue but he could see him spiralling. Desperate times called for desperate measures.

"My friend?" Jeff's tone was firm. "I'm your friend now?"

Alan's face changed instantly. He knew he'd messed up. He opened his mouth to speak but Jeff beat him to it.

"Do friends do what we did in the pool last night? Huh? Huh?"

Alan had rushed over and engulfed Jeff in a warm, tight hug. "Oh baby no. I didn't mean that. I'm so sorry. I just got caught up in the moment, thinking about the car and I'm sorry. You know I love you. Friends? No way!"

It was working. Now Jeff just needed to get Alan inside of the house and away from the Jeep. He acted indifferent as Alan rubbed his hands up and down his back. "Please Nu. I'm sorry, can you forgive me?"

A lightbulb went off in Jeff's mind. "Maybe. If you cook me something delicious for lunch".

Alan released Jeff from the hug and kissed him softly on the lips. "Yes of course Nu. Come on, let's go".

The rest of the group had been watching the whole exchange from inside of the house.

"What do you think they're talking about?" Sonic asked.

"Uncle's performance in the bedroom?" Joked North

Babe rolled his eyes. "They're coming back, quick look natural".

When Alan and Jeff entered the house they found Sonic leaning up against the wall admiring his fingernails. North was sitting on the sofa reading a magazine, upside down. Babe was playing chess, by himself. And Charlie was busily fluffing a pillow that lay on an armchair in the corner of the room. They were all silent.

Jeff shook his head and sighed. Really, he thought.

"Alan's going to make us some lunch", his voice cutting through the room like a knife through butter.

Suddenly they all exploded into chatter. Talking over one another, laughing and smiling. If Alan noticed their awkwardness he didn't say so. He walked straight through to the kitchen, pulling Jeff behind him, their fingers interlocked. As he walked, Jeff took out his phone and typed a quick message to the other four men.

"No one mention the bloody Jeep!"
