Vampire

Chapter 6

Kate's POV

I sighed as I walked further into the woods. Suddenly Tristan stood in front of me. He scared me so much I fell right on my bum, gasping for air. "Are you okay?" he asked looking into my eyes intently. "Y-yes" I stuttered back. I just wanted to get away from him and all of the vampire crap! I got up and brushed some dirt off my back and started walking again, ignoring Tristan, hoping he would go away. He grabbed my wrist. "Are you sure?" He asked, his face filled with concern. "Yeah I'm sure". 

"He probably compelled her" he mumbled to himself. "I'm standing right here you know? He didn't compell me. He let me go" I said. "No way" he said, questioning my explanation. "Whatever" I just answered and kept on walking. "Wait!" he shouted after me. I turned around slowly. "What?" I asked him. "What happened back there then?". I sighed before I tried explaining. "He was about to kill me when he just all of a sudden pulled back. He started helping me and started rambling about a switch for your emotions that you can turn off and on. He cried. I think he turned his feelings back on" I said, confusing myself. It was all so weird. Tristan's eyes lit up all of a sudden. "He turned his feelings back on? Why?" He asked, really excited. 

"Uhm.. I don't know" I said, I really had no clue. "What did you do before he pulled back?" He asked as if the information was crucial to his survival or something. "I don't know. I screamed and I cried" I said, blushing slighly. "Omg, he has really turned his feelings on and it's because of you! Come with me" He said and ran over to me and threw me over his shoulder. Oh no! Not when I was just about to get away! "Let me down!" I shouted at him, but he kept running. When he finally put me down we were inside their house again. "Go" he said and put a hand on the small of my back, pushing me towards James' bedroom. I tried turning around and run, but he held me back. 

Once inside the room I saw James sitting at the edge of his bed with his head in his hands. I heard the lock in the door and turned around sharply to see that Tristan had locked the door behind me. Great! Nowhere to run. "James, here is Kate again. Something about her made you turn your humanity back on so I want you to be with her" Tristan said. My eyes widened at his words. I thought he wanted to help me! He just pushed me towards an unstable vampire! I looked back at James that had lifted his head slightly to look at us as if he just noticed we were here. He looked angry and I immediatley started backing away as I looked into his eyes. "Get out!" He shouted towards us. Gladly, I answered him back in my mind as I tried getting past Tristan to get towards the door. Tristan grabbed my wrist and pushed me towards James. 

I fell over on his bed. "Don't fight the emotions James! Talk to her, let her get you back. Let me help you with this. I know it's heard" Tristan said to James calmly and then he turned around and opened the door before closing it behind him and locking it from the outside. I turned to look at James, unsure of what to do next or what he could do to me. James lifted his fingers and started pulling in his hair. So something about me had made him turn his feelings on? He cared about me? James squeezed his eyes shut before standing up from the bed and walking around the room. I was to nervous to move so I just stared at him, waiting for him to make some sort of move, kill me or help me out or anything. When he didn't I stood up from the bed. "Sit down" James said to me and he locked his dark eyes with mine. I quickly sat back down. 

"Could you just tell me what's going on?" I whispered while looking at my hands, scared that I had pushed him to far with my question. He didn't answer me, he just kept pacing around the room. After a few minutes he stopped pacing fianlly and walked over to me. He sat down next to me and took a strand of my hair and pushed it gently behind my ear, but it still made me jump. "Sorry, I'm not going to hurt you" he whispered softly. God, that's a total change of heart. Did he have some sort of personality disorder? Could vampires get those sort of things? "Well I guess Tristan would like me to talk to you. He's always trying to save me. Well I've had my feelings shut of for as long as I can remember and now it's all coming back slowly. All the pain and guilt from my past. Something about your scream made me think of sister. She.. back when I was a human she got really sick. Me and Tristan tried to take care of her. We did all we could. We had met a vampire and we wanted him to turn all three of us. Make us immortal so we could always be together, but she died before he could turn her. He turned us though and I chose to turn off my humanity to get the pain away and I ran away. I didn't look back once" He explained and a tears ran down his cheek and onto his hand. He stared at it for a few seconds before he looked up at me, his dark eyes searching for something in mine.

I felt sorry for him and that made me relax a bit. He was vulnerble, he had lost his sister and he coulden't cope with it. I think anyone would shut off their feelings in that situation if they could. They would do anything to escape the pain. But that doesn't mean that I approve of his lifestyle and how he had played with me. I put my hand on top of his and gave him a little smile before I stood up from the bed. "l can't help you James. I'm not your sister and I can't make the pain go away. You just have to find a way to deal with like humans do" I told him and started walking towards the door. I put my hand on the handle before I remembered that is was locked. Damn it!

 

"I know that and I'm sorry. I just wish I had something or someone worth fighting for" he whispered as he looked at the floor. I bit my lip. Did he expect me to be that someone? I don't know him and all he has done to me is be mean and bite me.
