The letter

''Misty! Misty?'' someone called from downstairs. Misty rested her head on her arms laying on the bureau, she had just turned 11 and no one even noticed.. ''Misty?'' she heard again. ''What?'' she yelled back, quickly she put her books in her bag. ''You got a letter!'' she heard, Misty closed her eyes for a second, imagining  how beautiful life could be if she didn't live in this orphanage. ''I'm coming miss!'' she shouted back, she was slightly annoyed since she was just reading her favourite book again, her favourite chapter had just started. It was a book about a teenage girl who also lived in an orphanage, but sneaked out and lived with dragons and explored the world, sometimes Misty wanted to be that girl, but her thoughts got roughly interrupted by a different sound, was that an owl? She walked over to her window and closed it, thinking nothing about it. Miss Amelia, the headmistress of the orphanage didn't like books at all, or joy, or anything with kids. Misty put on her shoes and ran downstairs on the old, wooden stairs which creaked when someone stepped on them. Miss Amelia was sitting in her chair, it was a basic, red chair, but the kids were not allowed to sit on it, or even touch it. Miss Amelia was holding a letter and leaned back in the chair. Misty walked forward to her and bowed slightly. ''Miss Amelia, u called?'' she said with a fake smile, not wanting to get in trouble, she knew miss Amelia hated her, in fact, they both hated each other, Misty wasn't allowed to go to shops like other kids, or allowed to close her door from her room, like others, but after all those years of being treated differently, she became used to it. ''Yes i did. Someone sent you this. Do you have any idea who that person could be?'' miss Amelia said with a sharp voice. ''No miss, sorry miss.'' Misty said, looking at her feet. She took the letter from miss Amelia, again bowing slightly. 'For: Misty Thalia Delia Lilith Snakes Dragonheart.' the letter said, Misty hated her long name, she didn't know her family at all, besides, no one was interested in such a long name, so she always said her name was just Misty Dragonheart, instead of that strange long name. The letter was in a white envelope, the sides were a bit damaged, but it was beautiful. It had a mark on it, it looked like a shield with four animals on it, a snake, badger, raven and lion, they looked like they shined in the sunlight. It looked strange, but mysterious. Misty thanked miss Amelia and went back to her room, she sat down at her bureau and inspected the letter again, she noticed something on the back ''Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry'' what the hell could that mean? She thought to herself, witchcraft and wizardry? That was something that only existed in books, or movies. Though she never watched any movies herself, she heard about it from the other kids in the house, they mostly just ignored her. Her fingers touched the envelope again, it felt fresh and warm, it was closed by some candle wax, it was red and had a flowing 'H' on it, it felt warm, like the candle had just molten. Misty looked around quickly, checking if she was really alone, when she confirmed this she took a deep breath and started pulling the candle wax of, inside the envelope was fresh parchment, it warmed her fingers and she started reading it, her eyes went over the text quickly.

Misty felt a small panic, she was invited to some school? This must have been some joke by the other kids, she thought. Suddenly she heard a loud noise behind her. Her window! She moved her way towards the small window, she looked outside but saw totally nothing, but then she looked down.. A white, huge snowy-owl was laying not even 4 meters under her, she opened the window and then, out of nowhere the owl flapped its wings and flied inside, Misty forced herself not to scream, the owl landed on her bureau, it had something on its feet. ''H-hello? What are you doing here, you are beautiful by the way, you know?'' misty chuckled, she pet the owl on it head, it felt soft, the owl showed her its feet, she slowly grabbed the small envelope, there was nothing special about it this time, she quickly read it.

Misty felt another short panic overwhelming her, if this was real, and not some kind of joke.. how would she get all this equipment, and besides, a wand? Broomstick? Cauldron? What kind of school would use those things..? She leaned back in her bureau chair, the white snowy-owl was looking at her with its bright yellow eyes. ''Do you know where i could get all of this?'' Misty asked the owl, but immediately felt stupid, since an owl couldn't talk, and it - of course - didn't reply, it just blinked at her, spread its wings and flied away trough the open window. Misty felt alone, she didn't know what to do at all, so she just re-read the letters both like, 4 times before she finally started to understand, this wasn't just a joke, no one would train an owl, make up some story about a school and then make it look this good, no. no one would do that. She started to think, wizardry... that meant there was supposed to be magic, right? But why would she have magic? Misty laid down on her desk and closed her eyes. Well, she did make weird things happen sometimes, like when she once felt angry and some glass on the tables broke, or when she made some snake do whatever she wanted in the local zoo when she turned 7.. Or when she made her pencils float, at that moment she thought it was just some dream, but now it all started to make sense. But, IF she was a witch, would miss Amelia maybe know something more? Could that be the reason she hated her so much? How about her parents, they died when she was barely 2.. Lots of scenarios played in her head when she thought about going downstairs and asking miss Amelia about it, but then after a few minutes she decided, she would go downstairs and demand the truth.
