THE THREE OF THEM GOT to their feet and Buckbeak raised his head. They watched as they all appeared out from the Whomping Willow. They watched as Aurora and Rowan appeared. They watched as the Smith's all had a conversation together.

Cassie glanced up at the sky; Any moment now, that cloud was going to move aside and show the moon.

"Harry," Hermione muttered, "I know what you're thinking — We've got to stay put. We mustn't be seen. There's nothing we can do...."

"So we're just going to let Pettigrew escape all over again..." said Harry quietly.

"How do you expect to find a rat in the dark?" snapped Hermione. "There's nothing we can do! We came back to help Sirius; we're not supposed to be doing anything else!"

"All right!"

The moon slid out from behind its cloud. They saw the tiny figures across the grounds stop. Then they saw movement —

"There goes Lupin and Rowan," Hermione whispered. "They're transforming."

"Thanks for that comment," Cassie replied sarcastically, "I definitely cannot see it with my own eyes."

"Guys!" said Harry suddenly. "We've got to move!"

"We mustn't, I keep telling you —"

"Not to interfere! Lupin and Rowan are going to run into the forest, right at us!"

Hermione gasped and Cassie moved to untie Buckbeak.

"Where are we going to go?" Hermione asked, wide-eyed. "Where are we going to hide? The Dementors will be coming any moment —"

"Back to Hagrid's!" Harry said. "It's empty now — come on!"

They ran as fast as they could, Buckbeak cantering along behind them. Cassie, noticing the werewolves weren't moving yet, placed her hands against her mouth and let out a howl.

Harry grabbed her hand, pulling her along. "Why would you do that?" He was asking.

"They weren't moving," Cassie stated, "We would've all probably died if I hadn't done that."

The cabin was finally in sight; Harry wrenched it open, and Hermione and Buckbeak flashed past him. Cassie rushed in afterwards, and Harry threw himself in after them and bolted the door. Fang barked loudly.

"Shh, Fang, it's us!" said Hermione, hurrying over and scratching his ears to quieten him. "That was really close!" she said to the duo.

"Yeah..."

Harry was looking out of the window. It was much harder to see what was going on from here. Buckbeak seemed very happy to find himself back inside Hagrid's house. He lay down in front of the fire, folded his wings contentedly, and seemed ready for a good nap.

"I think I'd better go outside again, you know," said Harry slowly. "I can't see what's going on — we won't know when it's time —"

Hermione looked up. Her expression was suspicious.

"I'm not going to try and interfere," said Harry quickly. "But if we don't see what's going on, how're we going to know when it's time to rescue Sirius?"

"Well... okay, then... Cassie, you go with him — I'll wait here with Buckbeak... but guys, be careful — there's two werewolves out there — and the Dementors."

"I'm a guardian angel," Cassie smirked, "We'll be fine!"

They both stepped outside again and edged around the cabin. They could hear yelping in the distance. That meant the Dementors were closing in on Sirius, Cassie in her gazelle form would be at his side now, after getting clawed at by Rowan. Harry and Hermione would be running to Sirius any moment, meanwhile the gazelle was fighting the werewolf.

Cassie watched as the thoughts spiralled through Harry's head. She knew what he was thinking.

There were the Dementors. They were emerging out of the darkness from every direction, gliding around the edges of the lake... They were moving away from where they stood, to the opposite bank... He wouldn't have to get near them....

Harry began to run. Cassie followed him, the lake was coming nearer and nearer. On the opposite bank, they could see tiny glimmers of silver — Harry's own attempts at a Patronus.

There was a bush at the very edge of the water. Harry threw himself behind it — pulling Cassie with him, as they peered desperately through the leaves. On the opposite bank, the glimmers of silver were suddenly extinguished.

"Come on!" Harry muttered, staring about. "Where are you? Dad, come on —"

Nobody was coming. Cassie waited for Harry to realise he had been wrong about who he saw. One of the dementors was lowering its hood. It was time for the rescuer to appear — but no one was coming to help this time.

He looked at Cassie, silently asking with his eyes. She didn't need to respond, the look on her face said it all. He flung himself out of the bush, raising his wand: "EXPECTO PATRONUM! " he yelled.

And out of the end of his wand burst, not a shapeless cloud of mist, but a blinding, dazzling, silver animal. At first, the patronus looked like a horse. It was galloping silently away from him, across the black surface of the lake.

It charged at the swarming dementors. Now it was galloping around and around the black shapes on the ground, and the Dementors were falling back, scattering, retreating into the darkness.... They were gone.

The Patronus turned. It was cantering back toward Harry and that's when he noticed — It was a stag.

Cassie appeared at his side, and gave him a small nudge. "Prongs," she said, "Your father's nickname was Prongs."

They watched as Aurora carried Cassie's unconscious body, and then they watched as Callie appeared. They didn't notice the dementors surrounding them. But, Harry did.

Raising his wand, he cast the same charm — and once more, out burst a stag. It galloped towards the dementors, charging at them, and chasing them away from the Smith sisters. Callie and Aurora were now unconscious, too.

"Just like how you saved my life," Harry said, "Y'know — Arresto Momentum... I saved yours. We're even now."

Harry pulled her into a hug, his arms wrapped tightly around her waist. "Not really," Cassie grinned, "I'm pretty sure I'm your guardian angel, too, Harry."

Suddenly, Hermione was rushing towards them, a glare on her face. "What did you do?" She said fiercely. "You said you were only going to keep a lookout!"
