Chapter 36

It didn't take long for Rain and Pete to decide the day of their meeting. Payu obviously helped them and the day soon arrived. Rain parked in front of Payu's family's mansion. He looked at the nice building in front of him and took a deep breath as he felt increasingly nervous. He expected Payu to welcome him, but it was actually Pete who opened the door.

"Good morning, Khun Pete" Rain said, however he didn't get the effect he desired, he wanted to sound resolute and confident, but the words that came out of his mouth were much more closer to arrogance. Despite this terrible beginning, Pete knew that he was the one who had to apologize and decided to ignore it.

"I thought that we could discuss this during a walk in the gardens, it is such a nice day after all" Pete said softly and smiled at Rain, who tried to smile back. Payu's boyfriend silently followed Pete down the path to the garden, waiting for Pete to say something.

"Rain, I want to apologize for my behavior. I didn't have the right talk to you like that and you surely didn't have to accept to come to talk to me after what I said. It is obvious that we both love Venice very deeply, although in two completely different ways. I'm sorry that I was too blind to accept this fact. Will you be able to forgive me, Rain?"

The more Pete spoke, the more uncomfortable Rain felt. It was obvious that they just had a misunderstanding and now that Pete seemed so kind to him, Rain only felt bad for even being mad at him in the first place. This particular feeling grew so strong that Rain barely heard the last part of Pete's speech.

"Khun Pete, it was just a misunderstanding, can we pretend it just didn't happen? I love Payu and I only want the best for him, so I don't want him to ruin his relationship with his adoptive parents" Rain said instinctively.

"Yes... his adoptive parents..." Pete repeated with obvious sadness in his tone. Rain quickly realized his mistake and stuttered, trying to fix the mess he did this time. Pete quickly shook his head and smiled again, trying to act like nothing happened.

"I... I didn't mean to say that! I... I just... ummm... I didn't really think that... ummm... I'm sorry Pete, you have to believe me"

"It is fine, Rain, there is no reason to apologize. It is obvious that Vegas and I are just his adoptive parents, it would be stupid to pretend anything else... the connection between Venice and Vegas is actually a little more complicated but I won't get into details. Don't worry about that" Pete replied calmly.

"I'm... I'm sorry..." Rain repeated and looked away ashamed. At that moment, Pete put a hand on Rain's back and gently pulled him closer to hug him.

"It's fine, really... you don't have to feel guilty at all. You came here because I was at fault, not because you owed me anything, do you remember it?"
