Writer's block

My mind speaks in metaphors
The tongue twisted
Pen in hand trembling

Anxiety wanting attention
Pulling words out of my mouth
Only to find that it's teeth

Silent screams are deafening
Along with this blank sheet of paper
It beckons to be used

It always has

Strings of words dance around
My mind speaks in metaphors
Still the paper is empty

Depression curls me into a warm embrace
Never letting me go
I'm safe here

The blank page screams louder
Seemingly brighter
With also a sense of sorrow

Words scratch at the inside of my mind
Waiting to be heard
Wanting to be heard

Still the page is empty

Anxiety joins in on the embrace
The blank page still waiting
But this is home

The pen falls out of my hand
Leaving a mark on the paper
Beckoning me to continue

Fear takes my hand
Assures me I'm going to be okay
The page ignored

Words eventually quiet
The swell of screams
Now only a whisper

Continuing to wrap me in a tighter embrace
I'm warm
I'm safe here.

The blank paper now dim
Filled with heartache
But no words
